} I think the store owner had no idea he was doing it wrong and could've been shown the proper way to fly "Old Glory". Admittedly I don't know the back story but it seems to me his heart may well have been in the right place as he was flying the old "Stars and Bars". Proper flag etiquete is a pet peave of mine and it drives me crazy. Without trying to slam anyone I will go ahead and say that I have seen US Army units flying the flag backwards on their uniforms !!! Honestly now that's just crazy. They had the flag on the right sleeve of their uniform and the stars weren't on the leading edge !!! Disgrasefull at best !!! I'm with "Thesmaz" I don't think flag paraphenalia is proper ie. the tee shirts, stickers, and all that other pseudo patriotic shit. If you really wanted to display a flag then you would learn the proper etiquete and do it right. Nearly all the police forces have it on their cars and uniforms wrong too. The owner of the bar had denied several request from the public to correct the order of the Flags. He is piece of trash Mexican that believes in "Re-Conquista". (Don't try to get racial on this, I didn't say Hispanic. He is a piece of trash MEXICAN. It's not a race.) Uniform Flags: The "blue" field is to the front, regardless of the sleeve. There are patches for left or right sleeve. The flag should always be positioned as if it's moving forward. We do the same on aircraft; the flag on the starboard side looks backwards from what we're used to seeing. Hope this helps. If you saw something otherwise they were wearing a right sleeve patch on the left sleeve.... or vise versa. |

"Does anyone know which flag is allowed to be flown at night without illumination ?" This is taken from the American Legion link listed above... § 6. Time and occasions for display (a) It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flag staffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness. (b) The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously. (c) The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all weather flag is displayed. (d) The flag should be displayed on all days, especially on New Year's Day - January 1 Inauguration Day - January 20 Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday - third Monday in January Lincoln's Birthday - February 12 Washington's Birthday - third Monday in February Easter Sunday - (variable) Mother's Day - second Sunday in May Armed Forces Day - third Saturday in May Memorial Day (half-staff until noon) - last Monday in May Flag Day - June 14 Independence Day - July 4 Labor Day - first Monday - September 1 - 7 Columbus Day - second Monday in October Navy Day - October 27 Veterans Day - November 11 Thanksgiving Day - fourth Thursday in November Christmas Day - December 25 Other days as may be proclaimed by the President of the United States Birthdays of States (date of admission) State holidays (e) The flag should be displayed daily on or near the main administration building of every public institution. (f) The flag should be displayed in or near every polling place on election days. (g) The flag should be displayed during school days in or near every schoolhouse. |

Exactly, the "wrong" flag for the "right" sleeve. I just couldn't believe an Army unit had it wrong, tsk tsk tsk. |

Now I know the back story, It sounds as though the bar owner is a sissy. If he had a pair he would've challenged our friend Mr. Jim Brossard. |

He had a pair. They shriveled up and fell off when he saw a pissed of American with a knife. Big props for pissed of Americans with knives. Knowing the back story makes it even better. |

Our house that we close escrow on this Wednesday was remodeled by the ranking enlisted man at Edwards Air Force Base. It has a flagpole in the front and he HAS a light already positioned to keep the flag PROPERLY illuminated at night. Yes, we'll have a flag in our front yard and YES, it WILL be properly displayed - HOWEVER - there is NO WAY that a CA flag will EVER see the flagpole. Pic from the real estate agent website: We have family from Germany who visit and we MAY have a German flag PROPERLY displayed (Message edited by slaughter on February 09, 2009) |

Hey, you've got a car garage door AND a motorcycle garage door. On a side note, one of my most prized possesions is a Flag that was flown in my honor on a USAF 34th Expeditionary Bomber Squadron B-1 on 27 Sep 2008 which reigned down upon the enemy in Afghanistan firey hate by way of twelve GBU38 and eight GBU31 Joint Direct Attack Munition "smart bombs". I don't think Steve likes the politics of California (and I agree with him having lived out there for 15+ years) |

I bought a modular a few years back. Kinda like a trailer, but a little step up... When I was getting ready to move in, my first visit to the management included a bit about my flag... Me: Is it OK if I fly my American Flag? Them: Oh yes, no problem... Me: That's good, I haven't decided for sure where to put the pole, somewhere near the corner. Them: POLE???? I have a 20' flagpole, the only one in the park... Up and down every day. Z |

Interesting about flying the flag at night if properly illuminated. I was not aware of that. Can anyone provide an example of a government or military installation that flies the flag at night under illumination? I have always been under the impression that the flag goes up at sunrise and comes down at sunset. I have many neighbors that fly the flag at night without illumination. Some that do are ex-military. I've never had the balls to tell them what they were doing was wrong. I've attempted over the years to get the message across by flying a flag on national holidays from sunrise to sunset, but the message has never been received. |

We (at work) fly the flags at night. Our Security officers will lower the flags at sunset if the light is not working. We're a contractor TO the Govt - DoD and other agencies. |

The only flag that is flown at night without illumination is the one on the moon. All others must be taken down if they are not illuminated. Any ex-military flying a flag at night that is not lit up should be educated in flag etiquite ASAP. If it is worth the hassle to fly the flag it is also worth the hassle of learning how to do it right. |

Any one know the comment that goes, We didn't cross the border, The border crossed us. I'm thinking that the Bar owner has that same concept. I'm hoping for the next Mexican elections that we can close the borders off completely. Most of them want to have a duel citizenship. Mostly to vote in both countries. |

So just to make sure I have this right, If I have an "all weather" flag and a light on it I can just leave it up all the time? One of the reasons I don't have mine up any more is becouse I'm not home at sunrise and Sometimes I fall asleep before sunset so it wasn't getting up and down properly.. |
