What do you guys normally pay for tire changes? I carried in a new tire and also my front wheel (wheel was off of the bike) and left it overnight. The single tire mount and balance was $30 w/ tax. Luckily, I saved a bunch buying the tire online but know I have paid less (there) than that for a mount/bal before with the wheel still on the bike. I think I see a tire changing machine in my future. | ||

When you buy the tire there it is always cheaper for mount and balance. There are a couple of shops around here that will not mount anything they don't sell. I'm lucky enough to have a friend at a Suzi dealership that will do 2 tires off the bike for a $20.00 in his top pocket. | ||

I have nearly every other tool known to man. Maybe some tire tools would be a good investment. | ||

I have had shops tell me that wont mount anything you dont buy from them. Average price for mounting a balancing if you bring just the rim in is usually around $25-30 here. At the indy shop near my house, if I purchase the tire thru them I get 10% off & they will mount it for free. Screw that doing it yourself bit. Really easy to screw up a nice chrome or powdercoated rim. | ||

independent shop here; 20 bucks mounted & balanced off the bike. let them supply the tire once, 209.00 for an avon 140 for the road king mounted and balanced with the wheel removed!! no vaseline or anything. i'll be bringing my own tires from now on. tim | ||

JC Whitney has spoon kits for under $20 and bead breakers for $40 o $70. I can weld up a basic balance rack and probably a bead breaker too.  | ||

A nearby BMW shop justifies their outrageous price ($50, last time I checked)because of their "high tech" wheel balancing. Well.. guess what... a week after running in a new tire, a few bumps, weather changes and whatever else... that "high tech" balance means nothing. The local HD shop charges $12 for each wheel, including "low tech" balance. That price surprised the heck out of me... quite reasonable! | ||

Kens Motorcycle Tires in Woodstock,Ga.,charges $10 if you buy his,$20 if you bring your own. Off the bike,including high tech balancing. And they are good people! Did I mention he's less than a mile from my house? | ||

I found a place in Dayton OH that will do it cheap as well, and they sell new motorcycle rubber (great selection) at near web prices without any shipping. Ping me if you want the company... | ||

My local Harley dealership doesn't sell Buells not tires for Buells, thus I get the uninflated rate. Buell dealerships often charge a penalty if you don't buy the tire from them. | ||

heh, I have a C-clamp and two curved pieces of 3/4" plywood about 8" edge to edge that makes one hell of a bead breaker, It also works real good for keeping the beads where you want them when stretching the tire over the opposite side  oh and it was $8 total for the set up...now if I can replace the nice long rubberized irons I had I would do it myself again. | ||

There's a conspiracy here in Houston. All the dealers charge $30 if you bring in the wheel, $60 if you bring in the bike. | ||

Cheapest place in Columbus, Georgia is the Harley dealership. $25 if you bring your wheel and tire in, $50(!) anywhere else. | ||

Ken in Woodstock charged me $40.00 to mount and balance a tire off the bike. I will never go back again, and had to listen to him whine for 30 minutes about how I should of bought the tire at his inflated prices... Ended up getting the extended shaft for a Snap On balancer for a Gold Wing shop and he does all my tires..... And gets fresh Dunlops from the warehouse down the road... |
