Yeah, the officiating was all black 'n gold. The holding/safety bailed Tomlin out of calling an intentional safety on 4-10. Warner had at least one incomplete that could have been intentional grounding that would have put them in third and long. There were several other calls that extended AZ drives. There was a huge hold on Polomolu that did not get called, big play up the middle in the area of the hold. But that's the game as officiated by human beings in real time. The calls, both good and bad went both ways.

If we're going to cry about things that could have been, like idiots standing on the paint getting in their own team's way, how about Fitz's first TD? Look at the replays from the front of the end zone. Now the Burgh did not challenge, so it's water under the bridge and they may not have won it anyway. But in the spirit of what "might have been"......

As to the last play of the game, really? Seriously? The referee ruled on the field, the replay booth looked at it and head of NFL officiating ruled on it. But I guess we know better from our couch. None of the talking heads have come up with anything conclusive to overturn but they are just upset that a zebra didn't stick his head in that little hood. Those are the breaks in the game, if the players can get past them why do so many "fans" have so many hang ups? Maybe we should just have a bunch of camera robots on and around the field that do the "officiating".

I guess the NFL should just hold a popularity vote at the end of the contest and award the Lombardi to the winner of the vote.

I have yet to see the Harrison "punch" in any replay. Open handed shove, but no punch. Again, I'm not complaining about the penalty, but have yet to see anything that warrants ejection or even a fine. I suspect there was a bit more to that before the camera caught up to the action. Stupid penalty, nothing more. The team paid, move on.

One of the best SBs I've witnessed, and I would've still said this if Warner & Co had pulled out one more score........... Congrats to both teams for an excellent game and season.

Sorry, I gotta agree with Uly.

There was no punch, they were all open handed hits. You can't blame the guy because he can throw another man that far with one arm. He's not defensive player of the year because he's a pu**y.

Warner was SO obviously not in control of the ball by the time his arm started moving forward, I can't believe anyone is questioning that call.

The announcers explained exactly why Rothlisberger wasn't charged with intentional grounding - he had moved out of the tackle zone, and the ball moved forward enough. If you want to bitch, the incomplete pass that Warner got should have been intentional grounding by those standards.

The officiating was not one sided. In fact, I saw more penalty-worthy behavior by the Cards that WASN'T called than I can fathom. But that's the game.

Warner was getting hit as he threw the "intentional grounding" pass.

Warner had the ball IN HIS HAND before it left on the last play of the game. Maybe we do know better than the refs because we HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO LOOK AT IT when they obviously had better things to do. I think it could have very easily been incomplete or tuck rule. he had it in his hand, and only his hand was on the ball, as it came forward. All Im saying is it was worth a look. Not looking is shady.

Open handed strikes are punches. When was the last time, when have you EVER seen a player called for unnecessary roughness with a closed fist? are you even thinking of the right play? Harrison is standing over another player, striking him in the back as the guy is on the ground. The opposing player isnt blocking him, or even trying to get up, just getting repeated jabs in the back.

The holding in the end zone was blatant, but the pass would have been completed for a conversion to holmes had that penalty not been called.

Did we watch the same game? Did they air a special edited version in PA? Maybe they omitted harrisons strikes, the replays of warner pushing the ball forward on the last play, and holmes' 15 yard using the ball as a prop penalty that should have been called?

Im not disputing the steelers as champs, they were the better team all season long. Im just saying the way the game was officiated took away from their hard earned victory, and James Harrison is a dirty player. There are dozens of instances in the rest of the game that show that as well.

Is he a dirty player or just pissed that during almost every regular season game he has been held by the opposing offensive line but it was never called?

sorry, soco. Warner's hand have been moving forward on the last play, and his hand may have been in contac with the ball, but it was clear as day that he wasn't in control of it.

Krassh- Thats pretty funny. You might be right.

Xl1200r- So every forward pass that falls incomplete because it started to slip as the QB was throwing is a fumble?

When a defensive player makes contact, yeah. That's what a fumble is. If the QB has control of the ball with forward motion, it's an incomplete pass. If the QB Doesn't have control of the ball while his arm is moving forward, it's a fumble. Just like if receiver doesn't have control before he's down, it's not a complete pass.

Whatch this video - and if you can still HONESTLY say that Warner was in control of that ball while his arm was going farward, well, then I don't know what you should do, but I would suggest staying away from anything that you rely on your vision for.

Thanks, Krassh.

If you guys want to be mad at someone, be mad at that bafoon #78 that just stood like a...well... bafoon.

BTW - it seems every superbowl (and MOST regular season games) spark piles of complaints that the officially was one-sided to the winner.

So, maybe it was a fumble. We might agree to that now, did they know without a doubt then?

Of course for those still questioning the calls this probably seems like them trying to cover up the conspiracy but here is the explanation anyway.

Hey Damnut,

How about your boy rodney harrison shoving a 50 year old Chris Collinsworth during an on field demonstration before the game? I can see why he was voted the 5th dirtiest player by his peers a couple years ago.

He thought he was a musclebound bad ass pushing and striking all 110lbs of Collinsworth. What a douche canoe.

Didn't see it but that's funny. I have to go look for that on the Tube.

Collinsworth doesn't talk nice about Harrison, Belichick & the Patriots. He even came on the local sports talk radio station WEEI and talked smack about them.

I guess Harrison just isn't as good with words as Collinsworth and expressed himself in a different manner.

Please someone show me where in this clip is the vicious "punch". Oh I know the Great Madden said it so it must be so....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIF_ucHzbIk&feature =related

Extra contact, can I see why in real time a yellow flag was thrown? Yup. No physical harm was done, nor intended I argue. Intimidation intended? Absolutely. Can't say I hardly blame James when someone is trying to chop block him below the knees on the edge. Those shoves are in no way going to cause injury to a pro football player in pads, but a shoulder thrown into the front of a guys knee while his is in motion can cause irreparable damage. Career ending possibly. How many games did Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, etc miss from ACL/MCL type injuries? To a 30+ year old player this is down right frightening. My guess is from viewing multiple vids is the flag was thrown after the initial knockdown, the open handed shove to Francisco's left shoulder. He was not driven into the dirt, so I doubt it did more than let him know he was in trouble. The one handed shove that knocked him from his knees onto his back while it looks nasty is completely legal during run blocking. If the guy is up you can keep knocking him down, but you are not allowed to thump on him laying supine on the turf. If he were smart he would have stayed down after his failed chop block severely irritated a much larger, stronger player. This is much ado about nothing in my book, flag thrown, play/game long over.

Oh, would like evidence of the "dozens" of other instances in SB XLIII that prove JH as a dirty player. Was it the couple plays that Gandy had hold of James' helmet trying to behead him? Or maybe him, gasp, dropping back in coverage and having the nerve to pick off a pass? Or maybe that violent run down the field? Maybe it's just he plays so nasty rushing the passer like that. He should be much nicer, maybe wait a count or two before rushing. Kind of like the backyard games, one mississippi, two mississippi.......

If I was Francisco I'd wish to be under a rock right now with so much attention on this vid right now........
