Went for a ride today with five friends. All of us on cruisers. It was about 50 degrees, which I know is warm to some of you, but not me. I would have to have very different gear to ride in the cold that some of you do.

Anyway, we stuck to back roads for the most part and found some pretty decent roads. We stopped for lunch about noon at a place that was on a lake with a nice nature view. They were grilling steaks outside and were selling a steak, baked potato, and an ear of corn for five dollars. That should have been a clue. The potato was good. The corn was passable. The steak was terrible.

After lunch we were pulling back onto the road. It was a shady back road and we were faced with two sharp S curves right after entering the road. The parking lot was a damp mixture of wood chips and dirt. I somehow ended up last coming out of the parking lot and was a bit behind everyone else. No problem, I like to go faster than they do so I thought I would just catch up.

Maybe my tires were cold. Maybe they were damp or had a bit of mud on them from the parking lot. I don't know. All I know is that I was accelerating into a tight curve, leaned her over, and WHOA! the rear tire let go. I'm not exactly sure what I did, but I got control and straightened her out. Everything was fine. Except I lost confidence in my tire grip for an hour or two.

Otherwise it was a great ride.

Cold tires REALLY make difference.Glad your OK.The snow had my tires so cold on the Sumo the other night that I lost traction & ended up with a back ache & a bent brake lever....but I shoulda known better.

Yeah, Neil, I wish you could have gone too. It was a nice day. I have never had Dunlops on my bike. I used to run Metzler 880s, but I have switched to Avon Venoms. I have been pleased with the Avons. I talked to two other guys on the ride who had issues at the same spot. Maybe it was a slick spot on the road. Of course, we all had cold tires as well.

Those kinds of things will get your attention.
