There's some legislation underway to ban the ownership of boas and pythons.
If this passes, big lizards will be next.
If that passes, big doggies with big teeth will follow.
Please take a moment to sign this petition and hopefully, we can keep the government out of our houses.
Thanks in advance,
Steve Ford

That's because when they get to big or to much work people just let them go...

I am so sick of invasive NON-indigenous species whether its plants or animals...

It's been royal pain in my ass for me...

One of the driving forces behind this is PETA whose goal is to eliminate the ownership of ALL pets.
This bill will set a dangerous precedent.

Another online "E-Petition?" Don't waste your time.

IF this is important to you, WRITE and MAIL. It will carry MUCH MORE weight than another petition that is only on-line and doesn't take more than a few seconds to send out. Trust me on this.

E-petitions get noticed but nowhere NEAR the notice that legitimate letter-writing will get.

E-petitions are just like pissing yourself in a dark suit - it gives you a warm feeling and nobody will notice.

WRITE a letter. Encourage others to do the same.

Elections have consequences - now we have to live with them.

This has nothing to do with elections and yes its just another E-petition...

This has been a problem for a long time that is only getting worse...

Letters to Congressmen are a real good idea; I've already hit them and have actually gotten responses.
Guam and Florida do have problems with released or escaped reptiles but not the entire nation.

Pythons, snakeheads, pirahna and lots of others can now be found in the wilds here in the U.S. where they don't belong. It's difficult to predict what the ramifications will be but it's a sure bet that the ballance of nature will be upset.
Responsible pet ownership is sadly rare these days. It sucks that we loose rights over it but I sure as hell don't know what to do about it. It is a real and growing problem.

If you think this has nothing to do with elections you are sadly ignorant.

Just like how the off-road people are losing places to ride every time the lefties win an election these radical groups are emboldened.

How are you going to feel when some group wants to take away sport bikes because they are dangerous. It will be too late because they already took away cigarettes, big macs, fries, pythons......

The brown tree snakes in Guam were never pets. They were stow aways in cargo coming
from the Phillipines and are a red herring in the discussion of pets being released.

They do however show the damage that can be done when species are introduced into an
environment where they are uncontrolled. I was on Guam in 1988 and the birds raised an
incredible racket all day every day, sadly though I understand that is no longer the case.
The snakes are also quite aggressive and are a constant nuisance to the locals. It's sad,
but when you live on an island 1 mile by 3 miles long unless you are content to live an
isolated existence without many of the modern comforts an conveniences you have to have
imports, and with them come unexpected consequences.

Areas near me in Fla are overrun with monitor lizards & iguanas. Oscars are showing up in the canals & there are several flocks of parrots nearby. None native, most all these populations likely started from released pets. Did I mention the Cuban house geckos in my yard?

Unfortunately, there seems to be a "personal responsibility" shortage in general, not just with some pet owners.
I can't get a good job...must be the school system.
I can't stay out of jail...must have been my poor upbringing.
I can't ride at the speed limit...must be the Buell, wait forget that one.

The point is everything starts with who you look at in the mirror every morning.
Because of a few irresponsible people gov'ts (local, state & federal) are looked to to fix these messes. More often then not, the fix makes things worse & the majority suffers.

i've had my python for 16 years, come and try to take it!

maybe a license program, that is monitored by the local vet, to make sure you keep the animal, and if it dies the license gets signed off by the vet? annual checkups? that i could deal with, because i do not advocate letting these pets into the habitat!

i have owned snakes all my life, and can't imagine living without one.

That Burmese eating the alligator really fanned the flames.
The USF&W Dept. came out with this bizarre map showing how boas and pythons will take over huge portions of the US if global warming continues.
The map was later shown to be complete nonsense and I believe was quietly withdrawn.
I agree about stupid people doing stupid things which leads to stupid legislation.
You know, if the government can ban a Ball Python, for God's sake, what next?
Reptiles are an easy target and this bill is only the tip of the iceberg.
P.S.
This is the second go-around for this bill. It must have been shot down last year and here it is again in a revised form.

Sorry Ted, didn't mean to stir things up. I'm just tired of the blanket approach to dealing with idiots.
I try to be responsible with most everything I do but I still see the morons continue on, and then I have to pay for their stupidity.

No worries mike...

I hate that it takes a blanket law or Ordinance like in Miami/Dade for pit bulls..

I glanced at it yesterday,I don't believe there was anything against licensed breeders in the US..

Nasty Ass Brazilian pepper trees between time and money have cost me thousands..
Took me nearly a week to remove them all from my property lines... I also removed them from my neighbors property on my dime After some convincing..

Then I had to replace the fence on north and south leg of the property because they destroyed them..

As a tax payers its cost us millions to deal with these issues...

As usual we all end up paying for the irresponsibility of a few..
