I was already on my way to converting my Ss fairing over to the R fairing when it finally struck me what a pain it was going to be, and how expensive. Converting to the Uly setup would be much cheaper (the whole Uly setup only costs $50 more than the R fairing mount!). I'm really interested in getting the best wind protection with the least amount of work/cost, but I dunno.... I keep changing my mind about which would be better. Any advice? And I'm not interested in Laminar lips, Royal Enfield windshields, or any of that add-on stuff. I want something that looks factory. Thanks! ~SM |

i had to take the windscreen totally off of the xt because of the noise and didn't do much for me with the wind protection. i have heard some pretty good things from the after market setups though so check out the big bad and ugly section on the uly wind screens. |

Your best bet is to get the strada brackets for the Lightnings, install them and use any Uly windshield. I did that for a few months and then switched fully over to the Uly front end for the bigger flyscreen and power outlet. But I am liking being a full Uly front and rear now

SM- Seems like the 1125R fairing gets about the best comments about wind protection of any Buell product. Have you given any thought to using one of those? Better headlights too. |

Froggy, Do you still need the lower front fender from the Uly? I finally got mine changed to the XT fender. Mike Long Island, NY 06 XB12X Red/Black |

The touring screen on the r is worlds better than the standard or double bubble. |

Okay, here's another question. I had a custom hacked MRA shield I used on my Ss for about 2 rides. While I liked the higher speed comfort, the noise level was absolutely unacceptable, even with my ear plugs. Is this always the trade off? Is there always more noise with a higher windscreen? ~SM |

not always. the noise comes from turbulent air and a well designed screen will reduce the amount of turbulence and/or move it away from your helmet. Many times if the screen causes that much noise it also causes buffeting of your helmet which causes as much fatigue as riding with a smaller windscreen. If the touring guys "barn door" wind screens caused proportionately more noise than your fly screen could you imagine how much riding them would suck? |

Not all the noise is coming over the top of the windsheild. In my case, a lot was coming under/around the windshield and causing booming around my neck. Putting a large tank bag on my Uly solved this problem. |
