Ray.....what boat did you miss....the new 12's get more with less than the v-rod....and they surpass most every other existing motorcycle for efficiency/emmissions/power loss in almost any class.....who the hell wants a v-crud motor now? |

Or there is the version that I asked my son at age four; "If it takes a chicken and a half a day and a half to lay an egg in a half how long does it take a grasshopper with a wooden leg to kick the seeds out of a dill pickle?"
His answer?
"Seven."
"Seven what Trav?"
"Just seven Dad."
"Travis that doesn't make any sense."
"I know Dad, neither did the question."

Children are brilliant... and an amazement to watch as they problem solve or play. Their minds are not cluttered with the "can't be dones" we learn as we get older. They see no limits, no walls, no prejudice, no hate, nothing to limit their thoughts of what they will do when they grow up. They see the world through eyes much different than adults... seeing the obvious that adults sometimes miss. They are a gift! Until one becomes a parent... much of this not realized.
We learn that as we mature (?) and this child's view is diluted with experiences that too often set limits and invoke tunnel vision. We grow to in this aspect of vision... to out smart ourselves!
My son has asked some of the most thought provoking questions as he has grown... he just can't seem to learn enough. I feel lucky to be his father! If we open our eyes to this... we can at times learn from children.
I have had debates with persons where as I get older age factors in... where a younger person questions (and often rightfully so) the explanation as just because you are older does not mean you are right. Saying age does not matter. I disagree... age does matter... as we get older we have had the opportunity to have been exposed to more... thus may have knowledge that life has not yet given someone younger... qualified with the statement...assuming that older person took the opportunity to glean the knowledge as they aged. Which is an entirely different subject. We should realize that age has no impact on the ability to learn from a person... you can learn from children or the aged. We must strive to continuously learn as we pass through life... and to teach, to pass on what we have learned. To keep an open mind that even though we may be an expert on some subject... there may be something to learn from someone older or younger, who may even have less experience on the subject.
I have kinda run off with this... and I apologize... but children are such a gift... in what they add to a parents life, to this world... and how they seem to amaze us with the simplicity in which they see the world that adults seem to strive to complicate.
Forgive me!
So... to follow the thread...
Why do we see life so limitless as children, but as we grow we limit ourselves? |

I would love to see Kurtis Roberts sign on to Proton and go out there and whoop ass a little, it would just be so cool of a father son thing- I dont know much about Kurtis R. but I like the whole built from scratch Proton thing. Just floats my boat. |

Kurtis Roberts is riding Proton.Kenny Jr. is riding his last contract year with Suzuki,which he hasn't done well with since 500cc.Wouldn't doubt it if he'll be there also next year. |

Actually, I don't think I missed any boat. If BMC can get 50% more HP than a stock HD motor, why wouldn't you want to start with a hot rod mill and go from there. I mean, s**t, is Buell in business to sell sportbikes or just to be the R&D department for new Sportsters? |

Buell is in business to build motorcycles that are more fun to ride than any 2 other bikes. They've succeeded magnificently. If you want a 60 degree V-twin with overhead cams and liquid cooling, then you should buy an Aprilia. I bet it wont make you smile like a Buell does, though. |

Dana, as Court likes to say - "Good people always are."
I have yet to hear *one* interview with Kurtis, where he's not blaming something or someone. And that's whether he won or not.
Most of this season he was blaming a shoulder injury (and the bike and other riders). At the same time Miquel Duhamel was riding just 2 weeks after a clavicle fracture - and after the race spent most of his interview thanking everyone on his team for busting their hump for him.
What a difference.

I also met Miguel and Nicky at the same race.Those two really seemed like stand up guys.Want to know what Kurtis said to me when I asked for his John handcock on one of the factory Honda posters.He said not now and road his pit scooter away. |

It'll be along time before I forget the interview in which Kurtis Roberts issued a thinly veiled threat to another rider for a perceived wrong on the track. Guys like Miguel Duhamel would have chalked it up to racing and wouldn't even have mentioned it. For me, Kurtis Roberts embodies the two worst characteristics of youth: arrogance and ignorance. |

Funny thing about that, Russ; in the following race Kurtis proceeds to bump Bostrom (I think) out of the way in a reckless inside pass. Needless to say, he didn't mention that in any interview I saw. A cry baby and an unpleasant person to boot.

Ray..........why would you want to start with a mill thats already close to its limits?.....when was the last time you saw a porsche motor modified for less than the cost of two arms and a leg?.........until you show me that someone is building some serious HP out of a v-rod.....I stand 200% behind what buell is doing. |

MCN has an article today about KR riding the new Proton V5.
I'm standing firmly with Henrik. KR ain't ready for MotoGP. He isn't the rider than Nicky Hayden is, and Nicky's first season wasn't particularly spectacular. It used to be that the top GP class was the pinacle and it took years of riding in lesser classes before one got to the top. Even with that experience many exceptionally talented riders of the past have tried and failed to have winning seasons in the top GP class: Miguel Duhamel, Scott Russell, Ben Bostrom, it's early in the morning, I haven't had my coffee, but the list is a very long one. I think it's very safe to say that the combination of head and heart exemplified by Freddie Spencer, Mick Duhan, and Valentino Rossi is exceptionally rare. KR isn't there yet. Given the odds, it's likely that he never will be. |
