Dana, serious question here & dont get all testy about it. Have you ever attended a bike function out of state? I mean I know you are half kidding Spidey about the priority deal, but it really does end up costing a shitload of $$$ for even a modest little get together. My lil weekend road trip to New Hampshire ended up costing me about $500..gas, food, 1 night hotel, t-shirts at dealerships on the way, etc. Thank god I spent 1 night at Scooters place cause they saved me a bundle right there..hotels out east are $$$$.

Its real easy for those of us who live right here to tell folks "come on out & we'll have a party". Yet not everyone has untold amounts of vacation time & money. I usually try to fit in a big bike trip every other year. 99 we rode to S.Carolina & then up the east coast. 2000 was sturgis, 2002 was going to be Daytona but loss of a job put a damper on that one. 2004 will be Laconia.

You should take at least a week, have the relatives watch the kids & actually leave the state & go on a bike trip. Doesnt matter where you go, just do it.

I agree, and take a tent and do the whole biker road riding beatnick thing. Way cool. If I had to choose between riding solo for a week or more or riding along with others, I choose riding solo almost every time. Group rides are way over-rated as far as the riding itself goes. It's the fellowship and camaraderie that is the big attraction in a group ride for me.

You know it Blake. One of the best trips I ever had was the S.Carolina one. We packed the saddlebags & the t-bag & headed out. Stopped in Prestonburg KY for the night, had a good meal & a good nights sleep..we didnt camp on this trip, saved that for the whole Sturgis deal. The next morning we headed for Greenville S.C., the entire trip we took as many backroads as we could. Some of the small towns we rode thru by avoiding the highways were unbelievable. Spent a couple of days in SC doing the HOG national rally bit & just site seeing, then headed north. Rode the Blue ridge parkway, went to the top of MT Mitchell which is the highest point in the US east of the Mississippi river. Stopped in DC for the night & saw some of the sights, watched Clinton arrive back in town aboard his helicopter. Big fuss that creates for the cops.

Rode thru PA & stopped at the York plant, cruised thru New York & saw Niagra Falls, up into Canada & then home thru Detroit. Was a fantastic bike trip. We covered somewhere around 3500 miles in 8 days & I would do it again in a heartbeat.

PS..the camping bit can be fun, but even with a full sized air mattress its no match for the comforts of the super 8:D

We did Sturgis in 2000. Same deal as before loaded the bike up & headed out. Stopped in Sioux Falls S.D. for the night, pitched the tent at a local KOA along with about 200 other riders. Some of the folks really know how to rough it too. Here we are in our 7' square dome tent & you see these 50' motor homes pulling in towing a 30' trailer full of bikes. These people had dual air conditoners on the roofs, Ron Popeils Chicken cooker on the counter whipping up tons of food, etc.

Anyways we went to a local steakjoint for dinner & called it an early night. About 4 am we are woken up by the sound of thunder & rain. I look out the small back window of our tent & see cooler actually floating away by way of a small river that has formed in the last hr..thank god for high ground. We get up & next thing you hear is bikes toppling over due to the ground getting soaked. Luckily mine is fine. I get out & help 4-5 people get their bikes up onto higher ground & we are now soaked & muddy. Head into the showers & wait for the storm to die down..forgot to mention the winds are also whipping at 40-50 mph during this & tents are collapsing.

Finally the sun starts to come out but its still raining, we pull on our raingear & decide lets just get the hell out of here. And wouldnt you know it that less than 2 miles down the road, the rain stops & it hits about 80 degrees. Another mile or so & traffic is down to a crawl. A tornado had come thru within the last hr & it had thrown those big green garbage dumpsters across the highway. A 5th wheel mobile was totally destroyed by the winds & laying in the ditch. The roof of the local super 8 was ripped off & tossed into the parking lot crushing a Trike, a HD bagger & 1 Buell. Its kinda spooky thinking how you we were in a campground 3 miles away from this tornado & there is not a damn thing we could have done about it.

Thats Spooky Dyna,

But I guess its one of the drawbacks of living somewhere like that.

Hell I have never even seen a Tornado and to be quite honest I DON'T. This ain't Kansas Dorothy!!!

Camping is pretty cool around here, just find a spot on the side of the road, pitch your tent, and there you have it - instant campsite. You could also choose to take advantage of the conveniently priced tourist cabins/lodges where your only going to pay $50.00-80.00 Canadian for a clean nights stay and usually with full kitchens and bathrooms.

The trip this past summer was a blast and I would do it again. The most expensive part was the hotel in Racine as the $140.00 and tax US I paid was closer to $250 by the time the credit card bill arrived. Thanks to certain Badweb Members my trip was much more affordable as they offered a place to crash for a day or so both before and after the 20th event. My only regret is not staying for the Harley 100th - not that I am a big fan of HD but looking back it would have been a good thing to say "I was there". Oh well hindsight is everything.

These road trips, as short as they may be for some people, can be pricey at times so you must choose the ones that go to places you have never seen before. If I lived in Ontario I certainly would take in more of these trips but you have to realize it takes one full day to get off this island - its not just some one or two hour trip and the other thing is that the island is also about 550-600 miles across.

Dana,
Make arrangements to come this way with Spidey and the boys in Late July/early August. You can still take in the homecoming.

I have always wanted to see Deals Gap.

Anyone want to set a date for a trip to Newfies? To be honest, I think it is exactly the trip I'd like to take. I could swing through Michigan to get Spidey on the way there. I'd probably take a northern route home (around Lake Superior). Late July/early August are perfect times for me to travel. The mini camps are done and training camp hasn't started. Does anyone have a Farmer's Almanac? I'd pick the dates based on their weather predictions (it just seems to work most of the time).

Canada bound,

Dennis

Bad,
My priorities are with the trips I already planned. If Brag would have announced it a issue earlier like they have for the past 3 years then yes I may have a diffrent trip planned.
BUt I am only 350 miles from Wi I can make a day trip there every month Newfoundland comes once in a lifetime.

Go to the Storm Fronts for additional information.

I will send an e-mail out today to those who have shown interest and see if we can agree on a date.

I recommend Late July as there are still Ice Bergs floating past the island to see and the Humpback Whales are very close to the shoreline at that time of year. Hell I can even arrange a boat tour (I have clients who are in that industry) at a good price. I know of some places to stay (up to three or four per unit) that are clean and economical ($50-$70/night Canadian.

I can guarantee that if you came here once you would definately be back again!!!

Now Brad, why wouldn't I let you? One of the possibilities I have been thinking of is to trailer out to New England somewhere. Mainly because I may be making a little bit of family vacation out of it.
I already was asked if there was space. I'm sure if there is interest we can make things work. After James spent the week here last summer my wife realized it is kind of fun to do things with new friends so she may be agreeable.
Let's start pinning down the dates and go from there. I am free from middle July and should be back by August 11. I have a committment then that I should honor.
