My son and daughters college account have lost 46 and 50% of their values. It is not all bad because they have over 12 years to recover. but still seems like money flushed down the toilet.

My retirement has done a little better only losing 34%.

Just remember it isn't gone till you take it out. I keep telling myself at least the share prices have dropped.

We're doomed. Doooooooooooooomed I tell you. Besides, Nostradamus and the Mayans (Pagans or Bandidos, I get those clubs confused) predict the world will end on Dec. 21, 2012.

Not true, the mayans said it was the end of an ERA, not the end of the world. The era being the age of picies ending, the new era be Aqarious. They were astrologist.(hence the reference to the 21, or winter equinox)
Canfield, what stocks are you buying?? I would like to do a little D&D.

Well we had ANOTHER lay-off today at work. We have reduced our workforce by 32% in the last year.

I am a Tech Support Engineer but was recently given the Tech Publications hat to wear as the Tech Pubs person was let go a month ago. I just found out that my Admin person is being let go in this round of lay-offs. I get called into my boss' office to be told that I will have to start taking care of half of her workload once she is gone. WTF?? I now wear 3 hats and not getting anymore money because they put a freeze on all raises.

Well at least I still have a job or three.............

I'm playing a few long shots. I figure the market doesn't find it's bottom for another 1,000 points but there are starting, with the inauguration speech, to be some interesting prospects appear.

I'm not swinging for the fences. . . . some MS (Morgan Stanley) while it's drug down my the momentum of the industry. . . I'm looking at Shaw Group (weighing the impact of the $6.2M fine for messing with OSHA records last week at one of their subsidiaries) due to the infrastructure thing.

Long and short (no pun intended) I outlined the speech and assigned dollar signs, ranging from $$ to $$$$$$, for each of the promises.

I can try to find the scribbled list and share it. . . . CAVEAT . . . it's a CRAP SHOOT of the highest magnitude.

For Damnut:

Sorry to hear about that. Maybe the big V shaped drop will be over quickly and the demand for workers will be just as fast and strong as the layoffs have been. Give your company that much time and when demand picks up tell them your leaving for bigger compensation. Of course you may want to back your bluff up with an actual job offer or two. Good luck and don't give 'em too much of your soul.

Isnt it always : )

I am more interested in the construction workers take, since construction workers know who can do the construction. Kinda like ditch diggers knowing who to call when they need lakes dug, if you catch my drift.

interested

Think about that.

I'm wondering how many folks keep, as opposed to a "just do and continue doing", personal strategic plan?

I've already pretty well served notice as to when I'm going, where and what the terms are. . . . it's a couple years out so they have time to think about it.

: )

I'm in it till they throw me out. I'm lucky in that I really love my job and the people that I work with. Unfortunately I have seen better days at my company.

We were 350 strong when I started 8 years ago. Now we have less than 60.
