Got my new FUELL mag yesterday. I immediately went to the back looking for some Buell adventures for 2004. Let's just say I'm somewhat disappointed!!

The Napa/Sonoma tours sounds like fun. I've toured that area a number of times (business trips so no bike). I'm going back there in February for some additional wine sampling:D.

Homecoming in June!!! The fact that BRAG has FINALLY listened to their people is amazing. But the price is ridiculous. I'll be there but not staying at those rates. I have too many friends in the area that will "hook me up" for hotel rates. I beleive the registration includes admission to the races at Elkhart. Again, why pay when I can get it for free.

Here's where I really start getting pissed about the adventure schedule......there are no more events until the middle of September!!!! I have a whole summer to have fun but it's back to the grind in September. All the events are bunched in the spring or fall. I'd love to do the NC or Colorado tour but it doesn't fit into my work schedule.

So what are your thoughts on these events? Anyone want to do somewhere in early or mid July?

Whatever happened to the "huge" event that was gonna happen? It was mentioned several times by a member here. Must be bad intel.

After the build up of the "BIG Event" in June I am sadly disapointed. Maybe BRAG can take a hint from the 20th.
Three days $20 not including hotel an other expensise.

3 days & $20?

I think he is talking about the Buell 20th event. It cost everyone $20 not including hotel or other expenses. Actually, it would have been $0 for those who didn't go to the dinner.

I haven't got my Fuell yet so I don't know what the Homecoming is going to cost. Lake_bueller only said it was ridiculous. How much is "ridiculous"? I looked at an older Fuell and the Torquefest was $45 and that included two breakfasts and a dinner. That's not too bad.

I haven't talked to Peggy for a couple weeks or so but I don't think ALL the details are worked out yet.

Please don't write it off yet before all the facts are known.

Dyna,
You got your wish, having another homecoming/rally in WI(you remember, instead of them being "half way across the country";) but are still bitchin! I'm shocked.

Dave we were promised a "big" event by a couple people who claimed to have been in the know.

While a homecoming is ok, its not like its anything new & earth shattering. The Northeast had a ride, Cali had a ride, the desert southwest area had a ride, hell even you stated you were trying to work something out with Peggy & Brag to bring a ride to this are of the country.

We proved last year that a bunch of nobodys could put together a better event than the factory does. Sorry if I dont get all excited over an anti-climatic announcement of a homecoming.

How do you know how "big" it will be when you don't know how big it will be?
What exactly, in your mind would constitute a "big" event?
Why don't you at least wait until you and the rest of us know what is even going to happen before you start to slam the event?

I asked for details from the mag. Doesnt really matter to me anyways. Going to Laconia in June, Crusty is planning some nice rides on the fantastic roads they have out there. Hang with him & some of the local ATC guys & gals. Done the Homecoming bit before, really dont need another factory tour or a ride to East Troy.

Basics:

$75 per person plus lodging for BRAG member
$100 per person plus lodging for non-BRAG member

This includes: dealer events (usually subsidized by the dealers), a dinner, Road America admission for the Saturday races & hospitality tent at RA.

Not worth $75 IMHO.

I don't know about that. whats a ticket cost just for one day at the races and food while your there. I mean hospitality tent and such. thats got to be close to $50 alone.
hell I don't know.

$75!!!!!!!!

dealer events are normally free & at RA I usually pay about $12-15 to get in for the day.

Christ even the HD 100th deal was only $50.

I got a feeling at that price there will be plenty of vacancies.

"Doesnt really matter to me anyways. Going to Laconia in June"

Then shut up already,jeez!

Lake,
Let's see 75.00

Dinner=20.00
RdAMerica tickets for Sat races= 20.00?-25.00
FREE food and drink at the Buell tent=? 10.00-15.00 you ever bought food at the races?
Dealer events=?????
Spending 3 days with fellow Buellers AND watching races on Sat=priceless

Sounds about right to me.

Ride to the edge!

$75 is a ripoff.
Its bad enough that you have folks who will make excuses for issues with the bikes, but to make excuses for overcharging the fans of the bikes is inexcusable.

Thats the problem with events like this, the price just goes higher & higher & you have the gullible ones that will just keep shelling out the $$ for it. Sturgis & Daytona have been ripping people off blind for years & I guess the factory just figures the pockets of the consumers are bottomless so they are going to jump on in too.

Maybe if you are all lucky, they raise the price again next year too. Do I hear $125?

$75 is a decent little chunk of change to spend for dinner & watching some races. And if you bring your spouse well now its really gotten nutz.

Dave....I'll be there, just not officially.

Don't forget to add into the mix that we pay $40/year for our BRAG membership. I'm guessing $10-15 of that goes to these events. So this event is really costing me $85-90.

Break this down:

Dinner at Lake Lawn (host hotel): $30
Road America ticket (per their website): $30
Food at RA: $10
Dealer events: ???

I guess the price isn't that outragous.

But I'd rather skip the races; ride some of the AWESOME roads in that area; have the races as an optional event (IMHO).

I usually go up for the Sunday races instead. Maybe I'll come down for the Friday events. Then get a group together for some twisty riding on Saturday. I can hit the morning races at Elkhart and ride home from there.

But I still think it's a steep price for a BRAG event. Most 3-4 day events are in the $45-50 range. This includes the Napa/Somona trip.

Anyone want to head down to NC to visit Brian in July?????

Awesome roads around Road America on race weekend? What the hell are you smokin'???

First, There are few decent roads up there; and second, all roads are heavily patrolled by State, County and Local law enforcement on race weekends.

Best just to think of it as a kick back weekend with your buds.

Let me ask a question, how much was the 20th worth? I'm not asking how much did you pay; how much was it worth to you? Was it worth $75.00? Was there 75 bucks worth of pleasure in it? I had something like 40 hours of time on the lathe invested, plus the poster fees, plus the dinner, plus the price of the tattoo, etc. and I think I got a bargain. For me, it would have been a bargain at all of the above, plus the 75 bucks. I don't think I could have enjoyed myself more. I was at the Homecoming in '99 and loved it. I don't see how I can make it this year, but if there's a way, I'll find it.
Leslie Hudson is married to my best friend, and I got to see just how much goes into one of these events. She was up every morning at 5:00 AM and didn't get to bed until after Midnight every day of the Rally. How much do you think Road America charges Buell to have their own little section of the track? How much does it cost Buell for insurance? Yeah, there are dealer events, but don't they get something back from Buell? Something to remember is H-D Corporate controls the purse strings, and they don't want to give Buell one red cent, if they don't have to.
I let my BRAG membership lapse, so I haven't seen the article, but I'm sure that the attendees will get their moneys' worth.
Here's one way to look at the 20th:
Only 75 people or so showed up, and all we did was go to a bar for crummy little 2" squares of pizza. The next day we all went to a dealership and had weak coffee and sticky donuts. Then we did a slow group ride and took a free factory tour. Whoopee. The next day a few nuts went off and got tattoos, then that night we had a catered dinner of chicken and lasagna that cost us 20 bucks, just to hear Erik Buell give us the same tired speech he gave to the press when Buell introduced the XB12.
Or I could say,"It was the Highlight of my summer!" It was.
Come on, people! you wanted another Homecoming Buell listened, and now your bitching?
I really need to figure out how to win the Lottery, so I can get to all these events...

I don't know what other sportbike manufacturer sponsored clubs (are there any?)charge for annual membership or events, but I've attended two Homecomings, a track day at Road America, the Deals Gap event, the CA tour, and the Southwest Torquefest. I have never felt cheated or ripped off, just the opposite.

I guess it's just down to your perception of value. I personally can truly say each event was "worth it" and "a highlight of the summer."

It must be the Kool-Aid, Or maybe I'm a glass half full kind of guy. I have 4 Buells in the family now, and we all have had a great time at every Brag event we've attended.

My hat's off to Peggy, Mary, Leslie, and all the others who make these "adventures" happen.

Thank you.

Triumph has their club, cant recall the name but its something with Rat in it. At their events Triumph has the entire demo fleet brought along & rides mapped out for anyone & everyone interested.

I have no idea if Ducati has anything official or not as I dont follow that marquee.

Then you have Americade which is the largest & arguably best touring rally in the world. For $67 you get.
Unlimited, full-week entry to: TourExpo tradeshow (hundreds of vendors), Roaring Brook Ranch (demos, seminars, judging, field events, light shows, fashion shows, [ ] displays, social events and more), Friday Awards & Fireworks Show, doorprize drawing ticket ($35,000 worth), Americade 2004 Decal and Program, plus discount coupon book (money-saving deals on meals at area restaurants and other goodies.) & Take your choice of: Boat Cruise w/ buffet, Championship Bull Riding Rodeo w/ Texas-style BBQ at Painted Pony Ranch, or 3 Course Dinner w/ music at Roaring Brook Ranch (each a $25+ value). This is the best deal at Americade (and probably in the whole touring world

Honda has their Honda riders club & they out on various events. And of course ask anyone who has ever attended the Honda Hoot, I dont recall the exact price..if Roger pops in here he will know as he went this past year...but for your $$$ you get 4 full days of events.

Crusty, I know exactly what you are meaning about the event & for me it had nothing to do with the Factory, the Bar & pizza, etc etc. I simply enjoyed meeting people like yourself, hanging out at Hooters & doing nothing. And it didnt cost me diddly squat to do that stuff for a few days. But now because the factory puts it on we get the pleasure of spending $75 & getting nothing more than what we put on for practically nothing?

I've got to come down on Crusty and Dave's side. I just received a brochure from Laguna Seca and a 2-day General Admission for the WSB/AMA races in July will set you back $65/advance or $75/gate. Seems a bit high to me, but I spent ten years doing scoring and getting in for free, and a guest pass.

If Spidy had wanted $100 for the 20th, I probably would have paid it as it cost me that much for gas by the time I reached Utah. Had a great time and because of the 20th went to Bonneville in September to watch the Elves run. Buell folks made both events the highlights of my year. Maybe my world is too small, but I had a great time and hope I can participate in future events.

I keep remembering the phase "there is no free lunch".

Lake - Didn't meet you at the 20th (but did see you arrive fashionably late at the factory). When will you be in CA in February? American Sport BikeNight meets on the 2nd, or maybe we could get a group together for some bench racing.
