We have been working for several months to be able to add a long standing Buell supporter to our ranks as a BadWeb Sponsor.

We were able to do it the end of last year, but with the holidays we were not able to give them a proper rollout. So without further ado, I'd like to introduce you guys to Bumpus HD.

Tom and Angie Bumpus opened Bumpus H-D of Murfreesboro in 1997. Truly a family oriented business, the Bumpus’ currently own and operate 4 dealerships throughout Tennessee. Both Tom and Angie play a hands-on role in the daily operation of the dealership.

Bumpus Harley-Davidson is one of the top 25 dealerships in the nation, thus making them a 2007 Gold Bar and Shield recipient. Both Tom and Angie are quick to acknowledge their dedicated staff and loyal customers as the underlying basis to this achievement.

Tom is not just a motorcycle enthusiast. He is a BUELL enthusiast!

Here is Tom at one of the multiple track days he does each year:

Nothing like being passed on the outside of a turn by an 1125R wide open by a dealer owner!

Bumpus HD has a long history of supporting the Buell community. In 1999, Jerry Haughton was making a cross country trip with Fireman Jim from California to the BRP and back on is X1. On the first leg, Jerry experienced problems with his bike and Bumpus HD robbed parts off of a bike at another dealer ship and a few from the owner's bike to help put the bike back together. While the bike was being pieced together, Bumpus HD lent Jim and Jerry the shop truck to go see the sights of Nashville. On the return trip, the bike had further problems and had to have the heads removed and a sent to a machinist to have helicoils inserted.

All of this service was provided at no cost to Jerry and during the lengthy downtime, they showed nothing but hospitality.

Chad Hargis, another member here, has also had a great experience of note. When repairs for his bike took longer than expected, Bumpus tossed Chad the keys to an Ultra Glide from the rental fleet for over night use so that his wife didn't have to make the lengthy trip out to the dealership and back to pick him up and drop him off to pick up his bike again. They didn't have to do it, but it made all the difference!

Bumpus HD has been my base of operations since June of 2006. The service department headed by Steve Shivers is second to none! I discovered one day before I needed to leave for Buelltoberfest that I had lost one of the latching buckles that attaches the front of my tank bag to the bike. There wasn't time to order one. They pulled one out of the tank bag box they had in stock and sold me that one and ordered one to replace it for their stock. Again, they didn't have to, but it made all the difference in the world.

This component is what separates the great dealers from the ok ones: doing the little things even when you don't have to making all the difference in the world.

I thought we might do something a little different. We don't normally get to hear from the dealership owner very often. I have asked Tom to check into this thread, introduce himself, and answer any questions you guys might have about his dealership. We don't get to ask the owner questions very often, so here's our chance.

I have also asked Steve Shivers, the Manager of the Service Department, to check into this thread. We will be creating an "Ask Steve" section in the Bumpus sponsor portion of the board. You'll be able to ask Steve questions about service, technical details, warranty work, etc. Again, we don't normally get the opportunity to talk directly with the head service person at a dealership, so here's our chance.

Dave St. Clair, the head Buell Salesman will also be checking in as well as other folks from the dealership.

Please make them feel welcome!

Good morning everyone, Tom Bumpus here. Not much a riding day in my back yard of TN today... Bright and sunny, but only 10 degrees. Come on Springtime...

If there is ever anything that we can do for you, please do not hesitate to give us a shout.

Thanks

thank you Tom, once again, for you and your crew's help with my problem-child X1 way back in '99 (not once but twice, including letting me 'n FMJ use the shop truck that night - amazing!) and for everyone's kind hospitality in the process.

welcome aboard! : )

very true. I have made the long trip to Bumpus HD from Fort Campbell several times even though there are closer dealers. They are very friendly and helpful.

The few dealings I have had with you were great, and riding on the track with ya is even better!

Was it you Tom at Barber on a yellow 12R in 06?

Yes Sir I did have a yellow 12R and black wheels before Buell had a yellow 12r and they put black wheels on thiers too... The first time I had it out at Barber one of the Buell reps came by looking at it and says "your either gonna love next years bike or be pissed..."

Barber is an Awesome track isn't it?

glad to see that there's another dealer who gets it cause the dealer over in knoxville doesn't even get it with the people who ride h-d's. (just a really bad experience going through while we were heading north to columbus last year) i hope to have another chance to get back up that way again. good luck and best wishes.

Yeah, kinda like the dealership in Chattanooga I had the displeasure to speak with on my way back from MB V.

"Yeah, I have a Buell UNDER WARRANTY with a dead or dying stator/voltage regulator. I'm about 30 miles south of you guys and stranded can you help me out."

"That's a Buell right? I wish I could help but we are going to close in a couple of hours and everyone is going home. It's too bad you aren't riding a Harley. I could've helped you then."

Hey Guys... I'm just a motorcyclist that happens to run a motorcycle business. I absolutely love to ride. I have several machines in my stable (which is one really cool perk of owning a bike shop). I've got my old yellow S1 that I thought was the perfect sport bike for a while until I rode an XB frame. That tube frame flexes badly by comparison to the new stuff. Then my XB12R became my sport ride then a Uly entered the picture and got adopted for a while. The Rrrr, Rrrr was/is a tremendous F#%&^'n ball to ride and completely scary at the same time. My current 1125R became the track tool of choice quick. After only about 10 minutes into my first track ride on it, still in complete setup stock tires and all, I was competing with some of the best lap times that I had ever turned on the Rrrrr, Rrrrr. I also ride an Electa-Glide, currently on my 4th 2009 (the others kept getting sold out from under me). Still have my 1988 FXLR LowRider Custom she does not see must action but I still love her. I've also got a '05 Suzuki DRZ that I like to do a little dual sport riding on. Life is good, and thank godness motorcycles get to play a big part in mine.
Thanks for the chance to spend time chatting with everyone.
Tom

To Tom and all the folks @ the shop,

Thank you for your support over the years. Its good to see Bumpus on Badweb.

To all Buellers,

As far as Buells are concerned it is a special place. Great folks, a lot of the employees ride Buells. Real Buellers are scattered through out the dealership in all the departments. Its not every day you walk in to a HD dealership and the first thing you see are Buells, Buell accessories and Buell clothing. You have to walk to past the buell section to the back side of the store to see the HDs. Nor is it common to line-up on the grid @ track days beside your dealer.

If you are ever passing thru middle TN, be sure to stop buy to see and meet a great dealership. If you cant see it person be sure shop their upcoming Buell cyber shop.

I am lucky to have Bumpus as my local dealer.

Any Buell dealership that wins the praises of FB and Ft_B is undoubtedly among the very best.

Thanks for running such a great Buell shop Tom. FYI, the entry forms for the Daytona 200 are out as of this morning. : D

Steve of "Ask Steve" here. Glad we're finally on board as sponsors. I started working for the Bumpus' in 96 in Memphis. I walked in my first day and right at the front door was a blue 97 Cyclone. Ever felt love at first sight? I sure did. After crashing that one (heart breaker) I got a 99 Cyclone. Buell was headed in the right direction with the improvements they made (exhaust, seat, etc). Got an '03 Lightning after that, even better than the last. Don't get me wrong-Harleys are fantastic in their own right, but NOTHING turns me on like a Buell. I'm lucky enough to work for a family that believes in what they sell. Anything I can do for anyone, just email me! RIDE SAFE!!!

Thanks for being a sponsor. My wife is a travel nurse and did an assignment in the Tri-Cities area. You have a beautiful state. She lived in Kingsport and worked in Johnson City. Those roads beg to be ridden on a bike. Alas, I flew out each visit and could not find a place that rented bikes.
Best of luck to you and your staff.

Hey to all. This is Dave St. Clair. Been
with Bumpus of Murfreesboro for 6 years, 1 month and 14 days, give or take a few hours. Took an XB12X to the Smokies in June, 2007 and got hooked on Buells. Bought an '07 XB12X last March and 7k miles
later has solidified my initial excitement of the Buell experience. Please call or come by the shop. Looking forward to some good rides this year.

Welcome Bumpus! You guys are great. Before I moved out here into the thin air of Colorado I lived in Nashville and had a used Buell Blast that I brought by the Bumpus shop. You guys serviced it under warranty and replaced the rubber hellbow that cracked for less than twenty bucks! The service manager came out and talked to me personally. You have a great sibling Buell dealer here in Colorado named High Country. I've been to a few other dealers who didn't rank so high at all. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you guys to any of the hellboys back east.

yea fat, i remember quite well. but someone didn't have bran contacts with him either which could have made a difference.but we won't get into that.

and although they didn't come and get me when the m2 took a crap(i was about the same distance away heading toward huntsville) they still got it put together okay without any problems and as of today the bike still runs.(knock on wood)
