I have heard of lawn darts, but never had the luxury of even seen them in person. I guess I will have to go and play with my lead painted power rangers now. : )

Unfortunately, after all the lawsuits, the good toys are gone.

Now we get endless varieties of Nerf.

Still have my lawn darts somewhere. They were fun! Of course we also used to see how high we could launch arrows from our bows too.

What about fire cracker, as 9 year olds we had crackers 1 inch ( 25 mm) in diameter and 4 inches (100 mm) long and maybe as powerful as half a stick of dynamite , we had fun with them. With a 3 inch steel pipe we could almost launch a potato into orbit, and as irresponsible as it sounds now, we would blow up anything, letterboxes, abandoned motorcar petrol (gas)tanks, one gallon glass bottles and al sorts of things,I suppose I should not be surprised that they are illegal now,

It appears from reading only a couple of those toys were actually "dangerous".

The rest caused injury from stupidity and lack of adult supervision.

I have to say out of that list, the easy bake oven kicks ass...

I had a childhood lady friend that had one that looked like a microwave (1984 ish).
We figured out you could put pancake mix into it, with a few sprinkles of chocolate chips.
Tasty. So very tasty...

When I was a kid (mid-60's) my Dad worked for Mattel toys, I had all the good stuff, the Thing maker, Vacu-form, Agent Zero M spy kit. None of those would be around today. It's a wonder I didn't end up injured, dead or brain damaged...Oh wait, not sure on the last one...

Creepy crawlers, Creeple Peeple, I loved the Thingmaker. Burned myself a lot, but what's a little pain when you're making your own toy?

I wonder what the EPA would say about the fumes that came off the Thing maker while we were cooking the plastic? But then again, I remember spending entire days morning to nite building plastic models with the windows closed.

My mom was crazy about the Monkees stuff when she was young. Bar, my mom grew up in SE as well, Anacostia area, then to PG after the riots.

My dads been trying to get some Jarts for the house! They look like fun.

Ahhh, lawn darts. Man you could really launch those things. Hurling a sharp, weighted tip was never so fun. I still have a Star Wars and Dukes of Hazzard lunch box. Used them as speaker stands at one time.
My wife's parents have a pre-civil war home (it's huge) and almost all her and her brother's old toys are tucked away in one of the rooms upstairs, it's like a time capsule in there.

JARTS!! I used to LOVE those things! Even had a set of my own. I remember the first time we played them at an uncle's house. My brother and I had so much fun my parents bought us our own set.

Funny how we never managed to kill or maim anyone, or any living creature with them (nor did we even THINK of trying). I'll bet they were even good for the lawn by breaking up the soil and aerating it (at least, around the target hoops anyway).

Does anyone remember the Mattel toy from the 60's that made troll dolls. It had different colors of goop that you put into a mold and heated in cooker they provided. Used to burn the heck out of my fingers with it. I'm sure it got yanked off the market after 100,000 kids burned the crap out of their fingers.

I can't remember the name of it but it was pretty cool to make all the trolls.

I still have a couple sets of "jarts". When they went on the forbidden list I bought a bunch of them.
My brother and I made a couple hundred dollars every year at the company picnics, we started playing when the booze set in and every one there thought they could beat us and well you know the rest.................
Hardly anymore company picnics, free booze, fun games, and unprotected, D'oh!

I loved Jarts - we used to see how high we could throw them. Sometimes they landed rather close. They can impale themselves into wood (playground set...).

As surprising as it is, our company picnics and christmas parties are open bar!!! No dangerous games, though...well, this one gets interesting, but not too bad...

I just remembered a cool game we used to play with Jarts.

We would get four people together and play over the house with 4 people, 2, 2 man teams.

two spotters and two chuckers, the chucker would throw it over the house and the spotter, well spotted.
Now that is dangerous fun : )
