Get the 16 G. Wife got ATT I-phone 3g with the 16 G. If you had the $100 cheaper 8 G you would not be happy with the lack of speed and ability.

It is cool, but has it's limits. I don't see replacing a PC with it, but I plan on replacing my phone with one when my contract is due. It cost about $30 a month extra for internet access. GPS is pretty good, the weather net is excellent, the internet access is limited mostly by patience and ability to physically handle small stuff. I'm kinda ham fisted and can't see up close for crap. The zoom is neat, but when I get it big enough to see I have to keep sliding the page all over. It is a good camera and vid unit. It does sound well and is amazing how well it projects sound. Paging through whatever stuff you put in there is quick and easy. The wife and I are not real electro-savy and we had very little problem learning how to operate it.

Recommend the padded/hard cover....and don't drop it.

I've been wanting to play with one as well. Can't decide between it and the new BB Storm. The Storm has better screen resolution and I really like the BB's. But there are sooooo many apps for the iPhone.

FRAG-ILE

Really?
I've had one for over a year. I've dropped mine more times than I can count in the truck at work.

Thinking about upgrading to the 3G for the GPS and 3G network.

They are great for just about everything but making calls. They need a talk and end button. If you get the big thick rubber protector they are fairly durable.

No dropping experience with an Iphone, but if it is anything like anything else from Apple, treat it like expensive china.

I've had one for over a year now and it is one of the best purchases I've ever made. I've dropped it hundreds of times and never had a problem. My wife got a Blackberry Storm a couple of weeks ago - it really sucked compared to the iPhone, so she returned the Storm and we added another iPhone to my plan.

My only complaints have been the lack of video/zoom on the camera, but I solved that quickly with the jailbreak. There are tons of awesome apps for this little thing.

I bought one for my son for Christmas and after playing with his I had to get one. He's got pages of apps on his. He has a hard cover for his cause he snowboards with it and I got a soft cover. We did buy ins for it in case something happens to it ie it breaks or gets stolen. If you lose it or it gets stolen, you have to file a police report to prove it's gone. There's a small copay to have it replaced.

A guy I know that has one said he's put it thru the washer and it came out fine. Don't think I'd want to do that on purpose tho.

I don't care that much for AT&T but this phone is cool. Got unlimited text messaging cause that what the kids use most.

My wife and I each have had ours for well over a year, and we've both dropped them numerous times without consequence. I've had mine in jeans pocket riding in the rain, no problem. I've had it in my back pocket and sat on it. I've had it in my bookbag and tankbag getting tossed around with books and pens and other stuff, no problems. It's an outstanding device that works intuitively, is dependable, and has an awesome application store.

Those who say they are fragile are perpetrating the hype when it first came out. "Oh my god, it has a big glass screen, it's going to break!" You know, those Buells break all the time too. Just Google "buell problem" and you'll see tons of people whose motorcycles broke. They suck...

I've had Apple laptops for years. I had a 12" Powerbook that lasted a 15 month tour in Iraq in 2003-2004, and is still working in my garage right now. It sucked up sand, took helicopter rides, was tossed around on a few convoys in the back of a HMMWV, and took much more abuse. It's dented and scratched, but it still runs like a champ. It's been on without rebooting for about four or five straight months now.

Greawt thread . . . I've been tettering the last several weeks.

I mainly want the iPhone to easily integrate all my stuff from home, school and so forth.

The problem in NYC has been the ATT service. I'm even considering keeping my Verizon phone and adding the iPhone.

I have 4 of them (soon to be 5) 1 2g version, and 3 3g versions.

It is the best phone I have owned.

Court, remember when you posted a while ago how you only saw apple computers on campus. Then you got one, and understood why, it will be the same when you get an iPhone.

BTW the BB Storm is over hyped. The BB Bold is the blackberry of choice.

one of the guys i work with just picked up the storm. it definitely is not intuitive like an iphone, and he's had to reload the os three times already. i think i'm going to treat myself to an iphone today. should give a good reason to go back out in this 13 degree weather.

Yes, really. I went through two of them, said the "Hell with it" and ATT gave me a Palm Treo.

Both my wife and I have had one since they first came out. I cannot count how many times I have dropped mine, still works great. I work out my truck and have a bad habit of putting it on my seat between my legs when I'm not using it, get out of the truck and bam, it's on the ground. Damn Bob, quit doing that! Only damage so far is the external speaker is now real quiet. Can hardly hear it when it rings. I'm living on borrowed time with the way I treat it. I can see a new 3G version in my future.

I was going to buy one for Christmas but decided against it. The one major drawback that I didn't like was no copy & paste.

I'm waiting for the G2 Android based system that is due in March. I have an HTC 8525 and love it but it is just too big. HTC has been using the Android system for a while now and will have phones available for all phone carriers in March.

I like the iPhone but there are too many stupid drawbacks with it that made me not purchase it a month ago.

I have friends who have had them going back a couple years now I guess. I just got one just after Xmas, so that makes four of us now who have one, and there will be one more in March.

Drawbacks are what Barker pointed out - no video, no copy paste, no media messaging and no flash support. But to he honest, it hasn't been that big of an inconvienence. There is a way to put a web address into an email, so that's taken care of. And I can send pictures through email, but I rarely did any of that stuff with my old phone. And as others said, jailbreak it and a lot of options open up.

The pros outweigh the cons by a HUGE margin. I've used the Verizon Dare and it was downright primitive compared to the iPhone. I've read reviews on the google phone and they've said the interface is a little inconsistant and not as intuitive as the iphone. This thing is money. And I'm posting from it right now.

If you don't need to rely on a smartphone for heavy duty business uses, an iPhone is the ONLY choice as far as I can tell.
