I just got my title and registration from the dealer who sold me my 2009 XB12X Ulysses. Admittedly I didn't look at the paperwork like I should have when I was at the dealer. Upon looking at it a few days later at home I realize that both the title and registration have my "BUELL" listed as a HD ! WTF ? I have no intentions of owning a HD and will return it if it can't be put right. Is this just a mistake or are the new BUELLs now Harley's ?

Sounds like a dealer mistake on the paperwork. The dealer should correct it. Check to make sure the vin # on the bike & the paperwork match. I've seen customers called back to the dealer to resign paperwork because the vin #'s didn't match the paperwork. The title, registration & sometimes the insurance can get screwed up if the vin # on the dealer paperwork is wrong. Imagine the lawsuit if customer got into an accident on a bike where the title, registration & insurance policy was for a different bike?

My title said Buel, so don't feel bad.

Would you feel bad if your Chevy car/truck said "GM" on the title?

I have two 03's and an 05 that say Buell.

Does anyone have an 09 that says Buell ?

I would hate to have to get rid of it.

Hehehehe . . . I had a gal hold up the list of REAL manufacturers and tell me . . .

quote:

There is NO BUELL. . . . it's either a Buick or a Bricklin, take your choice"

We settled on Harley-Davidson but then there were only about a dozen Buells running around then.

The title (MSO or Manufacturers Statement of Origin) MUST say Buell or you are subject to some real problems.

Your dealer should get it fixed.

Any problems, drop me a note.

My Title says Buel as well But then again my tahoe says chev so I think texas titles just use the first 4 letters.

Thanks Court, I am so glad that I don't have to return my Uly and it is only a tiny mistake made by my local dealership who has otherwise been nothing but a pleasure to deal with.

I just recieved a communique from Chellem at my local dealership (Liberty). She has informed me that when the paperwork left Liberty, it was a Buell. This means, get ready folks, here it comes...are you sitting down...The DMV screwed up. I know it's hard to believe but there is a first for everything, right ? I'm just glad that I own a Buell Ulysses and can sleep well tonight.

My two say Buell.

Hey if it says Harley does that mean its worth more and the insurance is cheaper? If so where can I get mine changed? Then again the Buick may be cheaper.

Yeah, sorry about that dude...

I'll have to add "make" to the list of things we check before we give the paperwork out - after VIN, color, and the expiration date on the regs. Ack.

So don't believe the hype. That bike is a Buell - through and through. ; )

My insurance company did this when I had my bike on the road. I have the rare Harley Davidson M2. It must be worth a lot of money.

My two Buells

1998 Buell S1 Lightning and the 1998 Buell S3 Thunderbolt are both registered as Harley Davidsons with Buell Serial Numbers.

I went back to the DMV and they told me they had to be registered as the NVIS (New Vehicle Information Sheet) indicated what they were.

Skinstains,

Not sure what state you're from but all of my Buells were listed as Harleys. I was only asked for the third one I registered whether I wanted listed as a Buell or a Harley. The difference was about $100.00 per year cheaper on insurance listing it as an HD.

My tubers are listed as HD and the Uly says Buell. The vrod was titled as a "JD" and I never really cared enough to do anything about it.

I'm guessing that's more related to the "J" being right next to the "H" on the keyboard.

:P

If you leave it as a Harley-Davidson you risk a nightmare if it's stolen, in an accident or you have an insurance claim.

Saving $100 by having it registered inaccurately may not be a wise move.

Brings to mind those smart folks in NYC who all have their cars tagged in Florida and South Carolina.

It's really cool saving all that money UNTIL you get in an accident and it comes up that you insured the car as "garaged" in Florida when you have a full time job in NYC.

The technical term is "Insurance Fraud" and it voids the insurance coverage.

In your case there is no fraud involved, simply an administrative error that needs to be corrected.

I'm in litigation at the moment with the city who is trying to get me to pay a ticket on my vehicle, a 2006 Ford, when the ticket says 2008 Chevrolet. They say it's MY responsibility to PROVE I do not own a Chevrolet.

Interesting stuff. . . .

"If you leave it as a Harley-Davidson you risk a nightmare if it's stolen, in an accident or you have an insurance claim."

I asked my agent about that because my title said "Buel". They said as long as the VIN is correct, they didn't care about how the DMV spells the name.

I think there'd be an issue if Buell was registered as a Honda or some other mfg not related to HD.

Birth certificate on my bike is fine...but MY birth certificate is wrong. According to MA, I was born on Ugust 31, 1981. They also misspelled Jordan..JORDON. Now on any legal document I have to misspell it...
