Quick Question, I have begun to put together an official club for the central Indiana area. I would like to put together a nice logo, however I can't seem to find any intuitive, and inexpensive software packages for a Mac. Anyone know of any, or any creative folks have a few seconds to create something cool for our group?

Name of the Group is Indy Buell Riders.

Nothing at this point. Back in my Windows days, I had fireworks.

Not even MS Office or anything?

Powerpoint will do it quite nicely.

As opposed to M$ office you might look into using iWork? Never tried to make a logo or anything with it though.

You can get a free trial at http://www.apple.com/iwork/ .

I mainly a code monkey so don't do much with the graphics.

Open Office is free, and decent.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

George.

Also,

Would it be legal if our logo had a Buell logo in it, and we wanted to get apparel, etc made? Would we need a release from Buell?

No

Would we need a release from Buell?

Yes. Unlikley.

Just got done with 3 similar situations, one that got pure legal ugly.

Two phone calls . . . always stick out in my mind. One was from a fellow named Tat Marcy who wanted to start a Buell Parts business and use the Buell name . . . I explained the potential problems and he went with his second choice American Sport Bike.

The other was from a fellow named Jay Hawley who, along with his wife, had run a Moto Guzzi club and wanted to start the Buell Owners Group. I explained that even though Phil, Don and I had filed the corporate papers to claim the name, articles of incorporation and so forth long before Harley, that is simply wasn't worth the fight. He went with his second choice American Thunderbike Club . . .

And you thought nothing was Made in America.

: )

Funny thing about logos. The devil is in the details. Unless you use a vector graphic program, it will look like crap when you try to have it put on anything other than a website.

The programs that make these are usually expensive and complex and the result is always worth it.

Get someone who knows what they are doing to make your logo. Sometimes, that can be as simple as drawing a logo out, taking it to an embroidery shop and having them scan it in, convert to a vector graphic and clean it up. If you don't know the tools, it will take you weeks to do what can be done in minutes.
