I have a moto maneuvering question. (moved from general discussion)

For the record.. I'm riding a 2008 City X.

I have been trying to hone my maneuvering skill. Recently took an msf experienced rider course.. found that I could use some practice.. so I have been.

My subdivision is vacant, so one of the things I've been doing is a slalom between the dashed lines in the middle of the road. There's the dash then a little reflector bump then a dash.. about 5 feet away from each other..
I can do it at about 25 mph comfortably. But a couple times I thought I heard (more than felt) the front tire skid when the bike was unloading to change direction.

Is there a danger of this (other than debris on the road) am I doing something wrong? As it stands, I try to keep a bit of throttle and drag the rear brake. But to keep up sustained slalom, I don't hold much throttle at all.

My tire pressure is good.. My suspension SHOULD be set up right. I've got it on the stiff side (i'm at in betweenish the top 2 settings but on a diet : )

Trying to get comfortable.. with rapid, dynamic maneuvering.

Thanks for any suggestions.

It sounds like you have it mastered... I wouldn't push it any harder because it sounds like you are at the tires traction limit.

That being said...

Try it one handed.... SLOW!!! VERY SLOW!!
This will help with your throttle control.
Practice swerving and braking...Remember to separate the two. NEVER TOUCH THE BRAKE WHEN SWERVING.

Thanks, yea.. I think for straight line weave I'm going as fast as I can.

ha.. funny you mention the brake thing.
My kids were playing slalom on their scooters. I decided I'd try to do it on my bike.. Sidewalk.. 3-4 foot cones. Can't be done. I tried.. Stupid me covered my front brake. Now I have a scuff on my mirror.

I am also working on slow then swerve.. panic avoidance type things. there are manholes set up neatly in a pattern where I can stay to the side of one of them.. then quickly turn and exit through 2 others.

Doing U turns and Circles .. but I've found.. being in the middle of the road is a good place to pick up flat tires.
