Bought onto the Harley extended service plan, however ECM modification is imminent. I am within my window for cancellation, as I have read that tinkering with your ECM will void many Harley service obligations (which I am fine with.) I was talked down (read scared) by the Harley guy on my initial attempt and want to gather more information before I return. The ECM work is an inevitability, I just want to save the 1K before I void anything, but don't want to cancel if most deem the plan worthwhile. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Extended service contracts are a scam short of engine failure, but even then they will weasel their way out. Cancel away.

If you use ECM spy to load in a race map, jest reload the stock map before ya bring it in for service.

Gee, I wonder why the folks at Buell don't just outline how the ECM works for everyone...

My extended service contract came in quite handy with my XB12Ss. I'd used it more than once when the original factory warranty expired. I purchased the additional two years for my 1125R too.

My opinion would be;
If you want to mod the ECM, drop the extended warranty. If you don't want to drop/void the warranty, don't mod the ECM until it runs out.

There really isn't anything pressing you to mod the ECM is there?

I just bought the race ECM, and its good i did because the stock one died at 8k miles, It would run the bike but you couldn't ride it. If you had 2 Then you could just swap it when its going to the shop

Exactly.

If you want to play with then you must pay for it.

If you change the settings and it all goes to shit then man up and pay your dues.

My 2 cents worth.

And to continue...

Perhaps if IDS were given the correct feedback with regards the running issues then there would be less people trying whatever it takes to make the bike run right.
