Well, I really like the looks and idea of the XR1200. I haven't gotten to ride one yet, but I have read everything I can find on it. Maybe I can get a test ride soon. Anyway, from what I have read it is not a bike to buy if you are looking for the fastest bike out there. It is a bike to buy if you like Harleys and want one that handles better than anything else they sell. I don't know how the Harley faithful will treat it. My fear is that they will think of it as a girl's bike like the rest of the Sportsters. The sports bike crowd won't like it because it is heavy and slow. There will be a few like me who don't exactly fit into either group who will like it though. I hope there are enough of us to encourage Harley to push the envelope even further.

Their loss.

My guess is that it will bring many new customers to the brand or bring some back to the brand, and will not sell well to their existing base.

It's an excellent no BS road bike.

I like the bike myself. I saw the first one up close a few weeks ago and other than the pipes, I really liked it. I have a friend about Dave's size with 65,000 miles on his '04 XL. He has leg issues that do not allow him to feel comfortable on a Buell. He has fun chasing us Buellers around on his XL1200C which he put taller Progressive rear shocks and a 19" front wheel for better handling. I could see him with one.

Dave, I agree about the Road King. I got the opportunity to demo an '09 Road King around all my favorite local roads on a twenty mile jaunt. Though it is not a sport bike, it does hide its weight pretty well and I truly enjoyed the laid back, at times, ride.

I like the looks of the XR1200 but when I did a but test, it just didn't work for me. When my feet are on the ground the pegs on either side dig into the back of my legs. That would get old very fast.

I don't know how the Harley faithful will treat it.

It's a shame that it matters. Opinions of people with very little motorcycle knowledge don't affect me much. Just consider the source.

It would be much more meaningful for me when well-rounded motorcyclists that read multi-line magazines come up and express genuine interest, with good intelligent questions about how it works.

"I don't know how the Harley faithful will treat it."

If it's not 900lbs, full of bags, chrome and a fairing larger than Jay Leno's chin, they hate everything.

would be cool, if on the tank it had powered by Buell.

By no means do some people think Sportster are girls bikes. check out our sister group in northern cal, Bay Area Sportsters. They love their Sporsters, and even put up with our Buells. ahahaha.

I would change out the pipes and the foot pegs. The peg position was not good for me either.

Maybe they will list this sportster with the $99/ $125 per month payment plan. Very attractive to buyers....

I too like the Nightster, but would also have to do something with the seat and the pegs...rex

I don't care for the Nightster....too small for me (5-7, 170lbs) and uncomfortable, but I do love Sportsters like the Sportster Sport and the Roadster, all of which are gone. The XR would be the only one I'm interested in.

Of course, for the same price I could have an XB12Ss, the ultimate Sportster....

Nah, But I had a Barker day today, photographed a race team - up country and rode the XR to the gig.

I was cruising back along the fabuloso state hwy 22 thinking 'day-am, I'm glad I'm on this bike in the magnificent place and digging the way I'm sitting back and smelling the roses - then I looked at the speedometer and I was doing 75mph.'

I still think the Street Rod is the best H-D i've ridden, but the XT is a contender.

Did 400 miles this afternoon - delightful.
