The last 4 or 5 weeks of 2008 were rough for the wife and I. Her in home childcare had gone down due to a parent losing his job and not being able to bring is son. Luckily we had our son's presents. So we cut back on Christmas and didn't get each other much. But we kept praying about and it and finally on New Years eve she found a family that wants the wife to watch their baby. So we went into the New Year with a little less stress and a better attitude.

Not bad, we were lacking snow and nature has provided a good 5 inches...then had to shovel the roof, the drive, the walkway to the storage building....unload a ton and a half of corn for the pellet stove...think about riding as I stack the bags next to the XB,,,then I look outside to the road..

... snow on the mountain roads quickly quiets the urge and I go inside to get warm!

I WANT SPRING!!!

Had 10 days off and all I have done is gone on one little run to Suches in the sleet, snow, and fog, when it was supposed to be 60 degrees. I did repack my Jardine pipe tonight, but that is about it.
Rick

I had some highs and lows-
First off an old college buddy died on Wed., I think that was the first due to age. The other two were much younger and were due to drinking and motorcycling, something that I don't partake in.
Second my wife, who had a mild heart-attack on Thanksgiving day, had her follow up yesterday and was given a clean bill of health.
And of course I am making plans with fellow bikers to meet at MBVI and Fskinner's fabulous adventure in CO. (My wife asks me why I don't ever get excited about planning a vacation with her )

The only change from 08 to 09 for me so far is last night was the first day of our new pay raises. It's not a huge raise, but with all the other companies in my industry looking for wage give backs or pay freezes, I feel pretty fortunate.

+1 And without pay due to a plant shutdown this week because of poor economy.

Also,a surprise $850 plumber's bill.Heck,they don't even diagnose or troubleshoot anymore

I think I could diagnose the damn thing i've sat with the service manual for years.
Their diagnosis is,"10 years old is ancient"
And,"You need to replace that thing".

Spent NY day cleaning my carpet after the dog had a butt blowout AND managed to knock over about 5-6 ounces of hot candle wax INTO the carpet. With a head cold, watching the sunny/COLD day pass outside the windows- no New Year's Day ride for me.

Then ate a good homecooked meal with my sweeite and a good buddy- complete with black-eyed peas.

complete with black-eyed peas.

I'm sweating that one. No streaked meat, no black eyed peas (the peas are required, the meats just good).
According to my Mom, that's a VERY bad thing.
But so far, everything is just glorious!

But you will be able to find me and my family living in our camper in the mountains.

My year started much as they have for the last 20 years... I did a 21 mile bicycle ride on New Years day. Worked on Friday.
Did another 21 miles on the bicycle today.
Uly time tomorrow!

Family wise, mixed: my brother in law had major brain surgery yesterday; 10 hours on the table... But he's conscious and responsive.
The doctors say he's got "best case" going for him at this time.
If you're inclined, maybe say a quick prayer.

Cheers.

Well, put about 75 miles on my Buell on 12/31. Best way to close out the old year. New year opens with a job promotion and a lucrative secondary job that will fund my Buell addiction dramatically!! I'm smiling and thanking the good Lord.
