I have started on my anual winter maintaince program. First on the bench is my 48 year old Penn 700 greenie spinnfisher surf caster. Once again after complete dissasemble and cleaning it was in need of NO replacement parts. Reassemble went quick and smooth,no issues. fresh grease to the internals and this old reel operates as good as the day it left the factory. They don't make um like that any more.

Next up was the 30 ??? some year old Shakespeare #2230 convensional reel. This is a little more complex to work on than a spinner. All went well and smooth, no mechanical/internal issues found. jest a good cleaning and fresh lube and once again she is ready for another season. They don't make um like that any more.

The Penn level wind 9M convensional was to be the last for service for the day. I don't know why I bothered, its only 20 some years young, fresh grease is all it needed. They don't make um like that any more.

Over the years I have stuck with these American brand reels I know and trust. Penn & Shakespeare. Last year I had three 20+ year old Penn black & gold "Z" series spinnfisher reels stolen from my garage. I replaced them with two new Penn's and one Shakespeare. Of coarse they are all now made in China. Think the new Chineese manufactured ones will hold up like the old made in America ones? I DO. If I continue my normal winter maintance on them that is.

I try to buy, made in USA but it seems that is no longer possable! I don't have a golden parachute, I live on non union pay. I need best bang for the $$$. Now a daze Out sorceing/ foreign made products are as good as or better than domestic made products. Jest like major corps the bottom line is all that matters. Sorry to say but American companies can't compete and no longer deserve my hard earnd $$$. CRASH & BURN BABY.
