Very odd day & also very good. Both grandsons are out of the hospitals. Daughters boyfriend..father of the baby..comes over and says he has a very important question to ask me. And then just like in the movies he asks me if I will give him my blessings to take my daughters hand in marriage. I didnt think anyone ever did that, but my faith in this kid just shot up about 1000%. Of course I told him yes. | ||

Didn't really happen...you're hallucinating...the blood pressure meds....  Occasionally, you run into a younger person that is trying to do the right thing... it's refreshing. At the risk of hijacking the thread, Tuesday a teenager did something that surprised me. I was having a bad day...stopped by McD's to get wife a Happy Meal as she had missed her lunch break sitting with my mom in the ER. Teenage girl with braces was taking my money and heard the ambulance and police car go by...I knew from my scanner that they were going to Wal Mart where a woman had fainted but was okay. She was so concerned..."Oh no...there must have been a wreck!" I told her they were going to check out a woman who had fainted at Wal Mart and she said, "Oh No!" "That sounds terrible...I hope she is okay!" I told her it really wasn't that big a deal...that the woman was all right. The girl said..."Well that just doesn't sound good at all...be sure and keep that poor woman in your prayers!" My initial response was What a dingy girl!...but then I thought...how many teenagers out there would show the slightest concern for someone they didn't know...that they couldn't see...that they had nothing at all to do with? Must be the holiday miracle thing... tomorrow's headline will read: DYNA'S CYNICISM SHATTERED BY FUTURE SON IN LAW! And for the first time since Dyna was delivered and the doctor kept him from hitting his head too hard on the hospital floor....Dyna was speechless! If only for a moment. If he treats your daughter with the dignity and respect he gave you you have a winner. | ||

I still have my doubts Ara, unfortunately I look at my daughter & her boyfriend & I see way too many similarities between them & myself & my ex wife. I certainly hope they do a better job. | ||

Dyna, how old are they? Grown past the twin banes of youth - arrogance and ignorance - I trust. My oldest friend, a Japanese-American gal that grew up across the street from me starting over 40 years ago, has this test of a relationship: she says it takes three years of dating for all of the facades to fail and to get to know who someone *really* is. Nobody has ever passed her test, possibly because three years requires a profound level of patience for just dating. But if your daughter and her intended have dated steadily and peacefully for a good long while, then there is good reason for hope. |
