By now, but I was a dumbazz this weekend and it bit me in the ass--or more precisely, the left knee. Took my GF and 2 of her kids to my brothers place in the foothills for some dirtbiking. I am a big fan of wearing proper gear, so I had everyone decked out-- except ME. Had on everything but my knee protectors. No biggie, right?? I was only teaching everyone how to ride and I was only on an XR 200, what could possibly happen?? Came around a nice muddy corner and the back washed out big, my left knee slid in the mud and found the only rock there was hiding in the mud. Instant agony. Thought I broke it as there was a big dent in the middle of my kneecap but pants were intact. It was such fun getting bike up and getting on it, and then kickstarting it and riding back up the ravine to the house.(I said lots of bad words much to the amusement of Deedee's daughter, who was following me back up the hill.) Pulled up front and called for help. When we cut my pants leg up I had a really nice gash dead center on the knee cap. Got it bandaged up, hastily packed up and Deedee drove me home to hospital.
Good news was I broke nothing, but at least 30 stitches and 2 weeks of no riding as the leg must stay straight. And I was supposed to go skiing this week with Deedee and her kids--OOPS.Guess I will hang around the lodge and lie about my injuries!! Let this be a lesson, ATGATT.
Should have taken a pic with my phone but was a bit distracted----
I'll get one when I change the bandage.
Oh, and this is my first time EVER needing to go to the hospital for a motorcycle injury in my 40+ years of riding, wish I could have kept that streak going!

Sorry to hear that Jim.

Still it's good to know you're mortal, like the rest of us.

Heal soon, & don't forget to play the sympathy angle (if you can).

Sorry to hear about your accident. Dang! 30 stitches is a lot. That must of been a heck of a gash. Hang tough and those two weeks will go by like lighting. You'll be back up and on two wheels in no time.

I almost did the same thing with my mini motard. I was riding in a wet grassy field with slicks without any gear. Trying to figure out a rough running issue, I tached out 3rd gear when suddenly, the front end stepped out. I slid across the field like I was sliding for home plate. I landed very hard on my left knee (always seem to do crap to my already bad knee), and while I didn't break anything, or cut it open, I aggravated a long existing knee injury. I spent quite a bit of time limping around after that.

Coming from a guy with 2 bad knees, I feel your pain.(not much left in my left knee and enough hardware in the right to keep ACE in business) The best advice I can give you is absolutely do not bend that knee with the stitches. Having to stitch back over scar tissue is not fun...again...this guy knows.

You'll be back in no time...oh...you'll also get free lap dances at your local strip club. The ladies cave when they see a guy crutching along...

Yeah, gotta go for the sympathy thing, but gotta love it when your GF comments,"Thats gonna make sex tough but we'll find a way." Great girl!!

Yup, doctor was most emphatic about bending the knee, asked if I really wanted to be re-stitched--NOT!!

have we settled that irresistible/immovable thing too?

DID you knock that rock out of it's hiding place?

Don't be too stinking proud to let somebody tie your boot. (got the big ugly scar to back up that piece of wisdom too; no restitch for me)

the best advice i can give you since i've been there too is to buy a pair of slip ons if the gf isn't around. or you can just wait until she is.

Surprisingly little pain, and I have an air shifter all ready for it,Tim. I was told by the fast guys that you want as little movement to upset bike at speed as possible.
Sure am ready to be able to bend my knee again, just worried that when I do I'll discover I have done other damage, fingers crossed!!
