How many people are employed by Buell? How many are in Production, and how many are in Engineering/Administration?
I know they're a small company that's growing, but I'm just curious as to how many people does it take to build a great motorcycle.

Kind of like, how many Buell employees does it take to screw in a light bulb?

How many people are employed by Buell?

Are you including the Taiwanese they employ to make our seats? The Chinese that make our wheels and swingarms? The Japanese that make our switchgear/wiring?
The Austrians that make some of our engines?
Have i missed any others?

Really, just kidding, hope you aren't offended by my PURE humor

Approximately 183

But it's a bit of a trick answer.

Figure, about 100 in the Engineering/Admin and the balance on the line. There are folks like Mike and Steve who would be tough to stick in a single group.

I read an article in Bike magazine on the new CR and they mentioned 200 employees at Buell. I'm sure that's an estimate, so 183 sounds reasonable to me.

183 understates the case because the marketing folks are not employed by Buell but by a separate entity. It used to be Buell Marketing Company but I am not sure of the structure these days but I am pretty sure they are still not employed by Buell Motorcycles.

As far as outside suppliers I don't know how Buell compares to other small bike companies like Moto-Guzzi or Aprillia but I think they are right in line with how many of them operate; they all need a lot of outside specialists to survive. Even H-D buys a lot of stuff like seats, suspensions etc.

>>>But it's a bit of a trick answer.

Ditto all the dealer relations, legal, most the homologation staff, most the govt. compliance staff, ALL the customer service, customer satisfaction and retention (completely different group) and technical service folks (with the exception of 2) and a host of others.

There is a lot of good news in this as well . . . some of the folks who were in marketing in 1995 have returned to "Buell Duty" in the last year and I think we'll see good things.

Counting people at Buell will seldom yield much meaningful information unless you carefully establish what it is you are counting.

Flick, as an example, is likely not a "Buell employee".

Well done. We'll soon be starting our discussion of Hidden Markov Models. . . . you'll be at the head of the group.
