I would never show this in our safety class, but it does GRAPHICALLY show the potential effects of drinking and riding.

Mods, move this if you must.

It's a shockumentary. I didn't see any real information or anything of value, just gore.

Very graphic & very sobering. I would consider showing this to new riders. Likely they'd 'hear' this message louder than me tellin 'em not to drink & ride.

What part of that has ANYTHING do to with safety?

It's a "look at me . . . see if I can get away with posting this" exercise.

Why?

I don't know if it would have changed my friend's mind or not to be honest. I know he did T-bone a car at ~80 mph w/ no helmet after having 4+ drinks. Fortunately, he's still alive. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember ANYTHING from the past couple of years, no longer has a job, lost his house, his girlfriend, and doesn't know who I am.

I often wonder if there is/was anything I could have done to change his mind regarding ATGATT and drinking/riding. I don't know. Some people, IMHO, can use a VERY SOBERING realization of what is at stake when they gamble.

So, to folks who understand ATGATT and don't gamble w/ their lives by getting BLOTTO & riding, this video is disturbing & shocking. To others who don't, maybe it will open their eyes. I don't know. I just wish I could've opened his.

I believe the entire thing had to do with safety. Drinking and riding is a huge issue. It obviously shows real people in real situations that may not have occured if they hadn't been drinking. Great post!

Yes some of the photos used are old and have circulated the internet in past years. I'm surprised they didn't have the photographs of the young man who rear ended the semi truck. They actually circulated the internet saying the young man survived but just looking at the pictures you know it wasn't true.
Another take when I was attending college I saw shock lectures like this in the Criminal Justice field, they are meant to get your attention. K

Here's another one, I took this young man under my wings and got him into a safety class after he crashed on his 929. He got his license, when I came to see how he was doing in the class both instructors came up to me and asked me what Planet did he come from? Because he already knew it all. After the class he kept doing wheelies at 100 mph, at night with both feet over the front fairing of his sportbike. Then he crashed again this time when I saw him in the hospital he thought it was 1921 and he was in Hawaii and was talking about pulling wheelies on Harleys. He has no bike now and has tons of pins and a rod in one leg, his right eye has no sight. His Mom made him swear off bikes so far he hasn't got back on. The whole time I'm trying to get him to go on the track and get the right gear to ride, it is like talking to a brick wall. K

>>>>it is like talking to a brick wall.

Many stupid folks have gotten really good at being stupid . . . it proves the indisputable value of practice.

Many can be distinguished by their common rallying cry "I don't need any training" often followed by comments like "just doing good in school doesn't mean you are smart".

Avoid them, they can be contagious.

Funny thing that they showed the now famous guy on the Harley laying it down at Deal's Gap. According to KillBoy(who helped him out after the laydown) no alcohol was involved.

Hey it's Christmas Eve and I've seen my share of dead bikers laying on the highway...

Can we trash this thread in favor of Christmas?

Oh no I want to embrace them if they are in my classroom for the 6 hours I'm going to try my hardest to get them on the right road. And now with Total Control coming up I will see more of them. Man I'm going to try my hardest again. The ones who are the brick walls will do their own thing I know but you think they would receive just a little! I used to give out WERA information and the MC safety office didn't like it when I worked for the state. Did you read Fred Rau's latest editorial in MC news it was about stopping and helping a rider who was having a hard time in the curves and looking really scary, the point is would you go out of your way to take the time to see if they would listen or just keep riding?

My question is, how do they know those old pics involved alcohol. Did they just put, "had four beers" on an old pic for shock value? Granted biking and drinking don't mix, I never have, never will, but no one has said anything about the second half of the captions; doing a wheelie at 100, doing 80 mph, racing a friend... Would being stone cold sober have affected the outcome? Probably to some extent but dead right is still dead.

seeing old photos you know most of them don't jive with the captions. Just like reading some of the news articles most of the info is half right.

Looks like it's the same folks from www.ride2die.com.

I'm surprised they didn't have pictures of the guy going through the Taco Bell.

The "play this video it happens fast" is almost the same scenario as MSF's Intersection video. I did the breakout session for the State Update at the beginning of this year for all of the MD certified instructors. I had to introduce it to them and have a brief talk on it. Good car driver awareness. It has the same scenario but you can choose teenager, average road user, and professional Truckers, depending on what group you are talking to. How will they get out to the public to view I have no idea. K

In the end, it comes down to what is taught the first night of class: What risks are YOU willing to take? I take my risks on my own terms and don't need/want alcohol to affect my judgment, the adrenaline does that enough.

As for the video, it wasn't posted to see if I could get away with it or to shock people(well maybe a little).

It was posted to encourage discussion. That is what makes BadWeb fun.

And I don't care if the pics match the captions. I will not watch it again to try to determine that either just like I won't go back to that site that Jeremy posted. I can stomach the gore, but don't revel in it.

And again, if the Mods need/want to move it, I am ok with that.

Wolf is familiar with it!
And I'm not complaining
I am totally interested in stuff like this. I've never seen the ride to die site or the save a life site until today. I have seen some of the photos though, and it is interesting to talk about. K

What site did Jeremy post ? I want to check it out.

As for this video, I liked it. The subject matter went off screen to soon for my slow adjusting eyes so I had to keep pausing it. After Christmas I will show it to my son and it will stick in his head and hopefully make him think before he turns the key.

Whoah duuude,

Don't drink and ride, you might get pulverized and mashed.

That's news... How?

Shock-umentaries have NEVER worked - though they have always been with us - just as has porn.

Whatever makes it stiff for you I suppose.
