Installing an auxillary trans cooler. O/D OFF light came on, did a little research, turns out it happens when the tranny is a little warm.
I would assume bigger means better on my truck but some have said that its a bad idea. Looking at a 12"x15" unit and had a friend tell me its not wise choice. Said friend recommended a 6"x10"... is that all I need? Factory one is integrated into the radiator, like most. Anyone know some secrets that could help me not toast my new trucks trans.?

Bigger isn't always better. Sometimes the pump is the weakness and can't handle the additional output required for the bigger cooler. Give us more info, this is for your Doodge right? Year, engine, trans, 4/2wd, etc.

My stock ram has a Trans Cooler in front the the Radiator..

I use a second trans cooler on my 1974 chrysler imperial, It has a 727 tourqeflite street fighter race tranny and i just re-routed the lines that run from the radiator return line into a 12 x 15 unit with an electric fan connected, Never had a problem. I would call a good race tranny builder and start asking questions.

Another very good thing to do is change out that fluid every 30,000 miles or so. It is cheaper that replacing/rebuilding one when it fails. If you can get over the tabu you can also replace a quart of ATF for straight 30w.

If you know what ATF is made from you will want to keep it as cool as possible.
