Nice.

This came up on the newswires a little less than an hour ago . . I like this.

quote:

Milwaukee Harley-Davidson on the city’s northwest side is giving 100 shares of Harley stock to any customer who buys a 2008 model motorcycle and 50 shares with the purchase of a 2009 model.

Shares of Milwaukee-based Harley-Davidson closed at $16.72 on Dec. 9. The 52-week high was $49.56 per share, recorded in December 2007. Harley-Davidson’s share price has been hindered by worsening global economic conditions, negative currency effects and the impact of tighter credit markets.

Milwaukee Harley-Davidson, 11310 W. Silver Spring Road, is owned by Chaz Hastings, who couldn’t be reached for comment.

This makes some sense. I, with our company being listed as a "5 Star - most likey to hit a huge rebound" company upped my personal ante today. HD is certainly more iffy but this is a no-loose deal for the dealer.

That's probably the most creative sales "gimmick" I've seen in a while, and one that could do well for a lot of folks.

First, they give you basically $1700 when you buy the bike. Then, if the price goes back up (which I think it will) you make $3300 if it meets it's 52 week high.

This is loads better than those "Buy an SUV and get an econobox 'free'" gimmicks.

Interesting that within minutes this came over. . .

Ducati shares to be delisted Dec 19 after buyout
Fri Dec 12, 2008 1:36pm EST

MILAN, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Italy's Ducati Motor Holding SpA (DMH.MI: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) are to be delisted from the Milan bourse, effective Dec. 19, after Performance Motorcycles's buyout offer closed Friday with more than 95 percent acceptance, the bourse said.

In a statement, the bourse said shares in the Ducati motorbike company will be suspended from trading on Dec. 16 to Dec. 18, while listing will be revoked from session on Dec. 19, it said.

Ducati in a statement said Performance Motorcycle, a vehicle set up by Italian private equity group Investindustrial, has obtained 96.9 percent of the shares and will meet its obligation to acquire the remaining shares.

The bid was announced in May and the bid price for Ducati shares set at 1.719 euros. Friday, Ducati closed up 0.77 percent at 1.713 euros.

Talk about not feeling the love . . . TPG group dumps them to buy Burger King a couple years ago . . . then this.

If the HD stock does what it did since my first purchase in 1987, and you are 25, you'll retire a millionaire!

Talk about a sales gimmick!

Quick . . . Paul tell us about that XR>

One of my local dealers is doing no tax on 09s, which would save you about the same amount depending on where you live.

The stock idea sounds cool.

Apparently, at least in the "big picture", it's not a big enough deal that the Milwaukee Business Journal just picked it up or got around to running it today.

That may be part of the problem. Dealers who toss out a neat program and who have forgotten how to "sell". Wouldn' you have been on the horn with everyone who'd bought a bike from you in the past 3 years?

Who knows . . . kinda cool anyway.

Yeah. . . I read somewhere recently what happened to the value of $1.00 of Harley-Stock bought in 1987 . . and it amazes me.

Part of the trick, and this is the part that is tough to tell a 25 year old, is that the game is long.

I look at my investments now and start to cry . . . then I re-chart to take them back to 1977 . . . and see that this is the 3rd time we've done this. But . . this time we have TONS of liquidity in the system, solid fundamentals and no 21% prime interest rate.

My much smarter SCU saw this current deal coming and moved 75% to T-Bills (cash) about 100 days ago but left about 25% of my account in aggressive growth funds where I get my ass kicked daily . . the good news is that I am acquiring, in nominal terms, lots of shares and adding some Morgan-Stanley (I like to gamble a bit) and am looking at Ford . . .

If I were 25 today I'd take a solemn vow to leverage the current chaos to be my ticket to not working a day past my 45th birthday.

: )

But then I am lazy . . .

I don't think HD has anything to do with it, it was (from reading) dealer specific. It it WAS Harley-Davidson specific the entire world missed hearing about it.

Court, you're right, I didn't see it on HD's web page, I saw it on Milwaukee HD's page. They send SPAM mail to me all the time. Thanks for clearing that up.
