i have a white xb9r bolt and recently bought this buell helmet. http://members.tccoa.com/rjpeters/helmet.jpg thing is i wanted to get the smoked wind screen but i'm thinking it might look really cool if i get a tint shop to tint it. The same color blue that is on the helmet of course. Question is have you seen any auto tints this color before? i am almost certain i have but not quite sure. Also i wanted to know if anyone has tried to tint it; does it hold up? thanks reuben | ||

Reubin Most tint shops use a Mylar or similar type of material for thier tints, its not a sprayed or liquid material. Since the mylar is a flat sheet that is squeegee'd on, it is unlikely that it would conform to the shape of the screen. Maybe there is some other way to get that color though- it is truly BITCHIN! Also, don't forget- ya gotta be able to see through it so you can get the license number of the idiot that just turned left in front of you! Good Luck- let us know what you discover. AL | ||

yeah i was thinking this; but hope'ing that a good tinter can do it. I may just have to stop in a tint shop in the next couple days; i wanted to get it answered today but i had school after work. You see the color i'm looking for you can see though so hopefully i can find something that will work. | ||

Yes you can get it tinted and yes it is possible to get the tint to adhere to the curve of the windscreen. Right now you don't want to do that. Polycarbonate outgasses for 2-3 years after production which will cause bubbling and orangepeel in the tint in a short period of time. It will look great for about the first month but then it will go to crap. | ||

Ben...Read somewhere that Buell Helmets were made by Shoei. Check with the local shops and if yes and you can wait, order from Helmet Harbor but only if you know it fits. Different models = different face shields. | ||

Reuben, I run a blue double bubble from Zero Gravity. I think it looks good on a blue 'bolt. Could also try to get Sportech to make some, I tried but was unsuccessful. Reuben, Are you talking about a face shield for your helmet or a windscreen for the bike. Face shields can be had at places like this. Face shield Any decent plastic shop should be able to make up a windscreen in any color you want. | ||

Just remember that if you tint your faceshield check with your local laws regarding tinting. Some places could be illegal!!!!! Tinting on a faceshield at night is the equivalent of wearing a blindfold in the day. Reduces your visibility and you could be a hazard to yourself. | ||

I just ordered the G-force from Gustafson. I have a Battle Blue Bolt. The first thing that the guy on the phone asked me was, do you have a white one? It does look good with a White Bolt! The only thing is that they have not drilled the holes for the new windscreen. You must do that. I have ordered a windscreen from Gustaffson before for my S2 and the holes were pre-drilled. Just keep in mind that you must purchase the drill bits for drilling the different size holes in your new faring.(about $20.00) No template provided, I shall let you know this weekend on how it goes. | ||

The only thing is that they have not drilled the holes for the new windscreen. You must do that. Make sure the bits are dulled a bit before trying to drill plastic. It will be almost assured that the plastic will crack if you hold a sharp bit in view of the product. | ||

Tinting on a faceshield at night is the equivalent of wearing a blindfold in the day. No shit. I was at Nevco's house one day just BS'ing & it got late, forgot that the helmet I had that day was the dark tinted shield. Too damn cold to ride home with it up too. Was a spooky ride home..never again. | ||

Tis the reason why I always carry both shields with me. Dark by day and clear by night. Keep the spare in the tank bag in a sleeve from an old sweat shirt to protect it. Don't have a tank bag? Check the Classifieds in the Bike Mags. There is usually an ad for a shield bag that slings around your shoulder and fits under your jacket. Worth its weight in gold if you don't like to use a tank bag and will be out after the street lights go on. | ||

This is the best solution I've yet to find for dealing with the whole tinted shield/blind at night issue: Progrip light-sensitive shield accessory It sticks to the inside of your stock faceshield and comes in clear or various "iridium" versions. The trick part is that it's UV sensitive so it darkens up in the sun, but is clear at night. No extra shields, and no need to swap out sunglasses all the time. clear shield and sun glasses. Except for those who wear prescription glasses. Then you need to shell out some decent $$$ for sunglasses & still need to carry your regular glasses with you, on a bagger thats no problem but on my bike if it doesnt fit in my jean pockets it stays at home. And on a bright sunny day sunglasses still dont work as sweet as a dark tinted shield. | ||

I've been doing the whole clear shield/sunglasses think for a while. This is nicer. 'course, I also need prescription glasses, so the factor Dyna brings up does come into play. -Geof |
