I changed the tranny fluid and the round inspection cover where you see the clutch cable in action... Whole thing was covered in thick white sludge! Did my tranny get a little too excited and bust a nut inside itself? I know water makes oil kinda milky white and runny but this crud was 1/4" thick standing and had the consistancy of sour cream! I was at my friends house when I saw this, so I couldnt take pix.

moisture got in, most likely thru the clutch cable.

You need some chips for that dip!





















It's normal condensation / moisture intrusion. The cure is to ride more. (not in the rain so much) And quit washing the bike.

Do you do a lot of short rides ? If the whole motor and trans doesn't get hot through and through the condensate will not evaporate or burn off.

Also, if you ride in the rain a lot, a zip tie on the clutch adjuster boot will help.

On 03's, the vent hose is tucked in front of the rear brake master cylinder and lays horizontal. Pull off the rear body work(just a few screws)and pull the hose out the left side and run it up the next opening ....up under the air box cover and then down to be lightly zip tied off to the right side of the shock.Install a second zip tie around the first zip tie,between the shock and the hose and snug it up to avoid flattening the hose.

Wondering about the water left in the tranny after I drained it.........I dumped in 12 ounces of WD-40 and ran it up to 50 mph on the stand for a couple of moments. Drained it again and it seems to be free of any residual water. I doubt that the WD-40 hurt a thing. I've never seen it deteriorate anything that I have ever used it on and I use the stuff on neart everything..........
