Just had a nice chat with Rubberdown. He's at home now, and sounds great. Voice is good and strong, considering the injury. Pat and I are gonna swing by his place Sunday on our way back from Carolina Beach after seeing our son.

HOME! Thanks all for the good thoughts and wishes! I'm a little broken but o.k.

Was doing some high speed pre-running of an upcoming off/road sand competition rally and did not realize I had ventured off the route. Came blasting around a deep sand sweeper, on nice new soft terrain knobbies, with 100 hp blasting a roost to the rear when I realized the trail ended with a heavy iron gate with tall near-verticle dirtmounds on either side. No outs. Apparently intended to exit the sand wash and broadside the bike into the dirt to the left of the gate. I almost made it, but got tossed early and snagged the gate upright with my right shoulder, ribs and hip. Bike ended up where I intended. SmackEd my head hard enough along the way to ruin my Arai XD.

My buddy Bill Conger saved my life by stabilizing me and getting assistance.

I came to as they were loading me into the chopper. We lifted off and had to abort three minutes later when the chopper malfunctioned. I go a nice bumpy 50 minute ride to the ER strapped to a hard backboard, with bunch of fractures... fun!

So I'll heal fix some shit on the HP2 and have at again... a little wiser.

Thanks folks

100 HP dirt bikes have to make for some pretty dramatic get offs...

On my KLR-250, I just pretty much grind to a halt and fall over : )

Good to see you smiling, even if you were faking it for the picture ; )

When Bill picked up my bike it was in 5th gear. I'm guessing I was running an easy 90 in the sand when i realized i was outta trail... that's real bright! DOH!

Hey Mike, Glad to hear you are doing better. Can't imagine breathing is a lot of fun, as those broken ribs hurt and I only had 3. Of course you have already impressed us all, trying to jump a gate with/or without the bike really wasn't necessary. Get Well Soon. Larry.

HI Larry! The Gate wasn't impressed at all, hehe... I flew another 30 feet after tagging it.. Not recommended behavior, haha.

I can't wait to get better, the race is in FEBRUARY.

Hey Mike, Hope you are doing well. Been Kinda Crazy for the last few weeks here. RACE IN FEBUARY? Now I don't mind you having fun, but I dont like to hear the rubber is down and you weren't just catching some air. My bike hopes are gone right now. Kylie is starting Chemo, and then her puppy got a rare strain of parvo last week...Now have a $3000 vet bill. Take care, Larry
