The USB cable its self can I pick that up at Best Buy, Circuit City, hell even wallyworld has USB cables. Can I just buy any cable chop off the female end and strip it out?

You need a TTL-232R-WE serial cable(5.0V)

No, the ECMspy cables have a chip in them that converts USB to serial.

Their customer service is great. Including the Buell plug, you can make this cable for about $30. The first one they sent me was fried. They emailed me a return label and shipped me a new one right away.
