I am now bikeless and want to get a Sportster Nightster. I don't ride too fast anymore and there are no curves around here so I think I will like it just fine. I would mainly use it for commuting to work and occasionally have my lady ride on for nice evenings in town. What are you guys thoughts on these bikes? Also, I am 5'9" / 185lbs so I don't think the size would be an issue.

All you'll have to do is take a test ride to see it's just as uncomfortable as it is cool looking.

Ride one. If you like it, then buy it. If you don't, then buy something else.

+1 - ride it first.

It's a cool bike, no doubt. I hate chrome, I hate cleaning, the 1200N is perfect for that.

To me, though, it rides like a rock.

If there ain't no curves, might as well get a cruiser or touring bike.

I would get the XR but have heard nothing but rumours about them coming here to the US.

Any one have any time spent one a Nightster? About the only other bike I would consider would be a S2R or a CR but the closest duc dealer is 110 miles away and the CR is 12k. I can pic up a new Nightster for $9,500

My girl loves her Nightster. I have had many Sportys and my favorites were the ones in which the motor was rigid mounted to the frame however the XLN1200 impresses me in off the line speed and the way it handles. I the only thing I do not like about is the ergonomics but that can be changed easy. It is Lynn's bike so I do not get a say in that. The only I would change if it was mine is the seat and the handle bars.

There was a problem with the fuel regulator pump gasket but that has been corrected in all the bikes. We installed Rush slip ons for a more HD sound, highway pegs and a rack on the fender for over night trips. The battery cover on it is kinda of cheap in the way it is secured to the bike (plastic clips).

It is not as easy to work on as any other Sporty I have owned but that is due to all the electrics, of course I have had to do nothing to it. It has been trouble free with the exception of the fuel pump regulator gasket.

I LOVE the looks of them and would love to have one.

Until I sat on one.

At 5'9", you're probably fine, but at 6' I couldn't stand it. I don't like my knees to be that high. Only the forward controls would have made it bearable. Those are spendy, and I wouldn't like the lack of control feeling.

I hear that a lot when riding a Sportster or Buell. I should get a bumper sticker to hand out to these people saying "I got beat by a Girls Bike"

Grancuda, one more thing. Lynn is 5'2" and I am 5'10". She fits on it a lot better than I do of course. It was the only bike she could flat foot on. On her 95 S2 she is on her tip toes if she is leaning to one side LOL.

I recommend test riding it as many have said. The bike does not fit me off the showroom floor but with some good aggressive drag bars and a different seat (I really hate that stock seat) it would fit me fine. She can keep up with me in the mountains when I am on the S2T. I can leave her on the S1W or XB12R but she soon shows up. She drags it around the corners pretty good. She could blow me away when I am on the Big Twin but hey, I hear its a girls bike!

F skinner, I actually like the Nightster. If there was no such thing as buell, I'd likely own one.

I was just doing what I was asked to do, talk him out of it.

So badlionsfan what is the big manly bike you ride? Your profile shows a xb9 but I know that can't be right.
I know a lot of harley guys that all they say is sportsters are for girls but I think the sportys are the sportier riding of all the harley line up although I do like some of the new v-rods

Badlionsfan, no problem. I apologize, I think he wants facts from people that own them.

That just kinda of struck a cord with me (and it's not even my bike lol). I rode Sportys for over 20 years before I got a big twin. There is nothing that gets me going when someone (usually riding a shiny new Big Twin with a bunch of live to ride crap on it) comments on my Girls Bike (be it Buell or Sporty) when the only thing they can wrench on is a beer can.

I do apologize....

The V-Rod's a screamer. If I was gonna get a HD, It'd be the black on black VRod.

Hopefully the XR1200 will be shown in the U.S. version at the H-D Winter dealer meeting. The late U.S. 2008 and all of the 2009 Sportster owner's manuals have had info on the XR in them and the parts guys have catalogs for the parts.

Dude, read the post above your question.

I'll say it again-- I like Nightster. If there was no such thing as a Buell, I'd own one. I was being sarcastic because you wanted to be talked out of getting one.

I did have a xb9, and if it wasn't for the 1125r, I'd still have it.

Lighten up dude, it's all good.

My REAL opinion here is go demo one. If you like it, buy it. Don't buy something you don't like cuz someone said to, and don't not buy something you like because someone said not to. your money, your scoot.

I miss the street rod. It was on my list when I was first looking to get a bike again a few years ago when I settled on the CityX.
