I have an 08 nightster also, in a lot of ways it is more fun than the Uly. With the gearing out of the 883, its a rocket ship stoplight to stoplight. Scared the hell out of my nephew the first time he rode it.

The number and diversity of accessories to make it uniquely your own is incredible. Corbin and Mustang make good seats for it and there are several good suspension vendors should you find yourself riding it far. I added the quick detach windshield from harley, no attaching hardware left when it is removed. I am an old guy so you may not have the visceral attraction to hot rod sportys that some of us do. It is sort of an addiciton like Buells, different in every way tho. Resale is a much better story on the sporty should you decide it isn't for you. I get pretty reasonable offers for mine every week as they seem to be in short supply again.

Seeing I'm closer to 6'9" than 5'9" it's out of the question for me, the saddle is in line with my kneecap.

But I really like sportsters, got friends with Gixxer front ends grafted on to custom 1200s and I luv 'em.

A FXDX is a Sportster to me IYKWIM. Would SO like one in the garage too. I'd bling it up and bring it out for show rides or when I want to feel like king sh*t.

Don't get me wrong, I *like* the Nightster and the Sportster line. They're the "sports car" of the HD family, so naturally I'm drawn to them. However, being 6'4"....I don't really fit all that well.

The lowered models (N, L) ride rough to me. Part of that could be the thin seats; part could be the position they put me in, transmitting bumps right into my spine. Progressive makes some nice, adjustable shocks for them. They also have a lot of front end dive to me under hard braking...again, aftermarket has that covered. The EFI is rock solid, but you have to add your own tach.

All in all, the platform is quite nice, and very well sorted out....they just don't have a model that "fits" me, the way I want it. Which is fine, I have enough bikes already LOL.

Rode one, fun, but they really need to figure out that with rear suspension it should at least work. I felt like I was riding a rigid.

Buy whatever you like, seeking others opinions will satisfy nothing on your end.

Hi Grancuda
My name is Lynn Twohig, I am the owner of the Nightster that my boyfriend Frank posted yesterday.
The Nightster is a great bike and it is truly a very quick bike.(1200 cc and only about 420lbs dry weight), so she definitely gets up and goes.
The Nightster is not as quick as most of the Buells; however I am extremely happy with her performance.
The bike is also a great cruiser ; I can do all day rides our mountains of Colorado and it really is very comfortable ride, which I have no complaints about.
They have really made so many improvements with the sportsters in the last few years, I have been extremely happy with how the bike is balanced and how she feels.
Next year if they don't change the dates of Buell Homecoming ( I am a full time student and that is my summer break) we are planning on riding out to Wisconsin, which is 1,200 miles from here
If you have any question feel free to send me off a email, lynntwohig@yahoo.com
Have a great one and best of luck to you, take care, Lynn

I'd never talk somebody out of a bike. Ride them both, stare at them each for awhile and when you wake up in the middle of the night dreaming of one get that one. Get what makes you happy. Me I like the Nightster, just liked the Buell more. Sometimes on a long trip I think the Nightster might be a little easier on the kness. Put me in the twisties I wouldn't trade my bike for anything!

Yeah, they are cool, but you can build one for half the money.HD just copied what the garage builder was doing. You can find a great Evo sporty for $4000 then cut up the rear fender, sell the front fender, put on some drag bars, fab up a side tag mount,& paint it flat black.Take a few artistic liberties & you will own one that does not look like all the other nightsters on bike night. You could take off as much weight as possable, rear sets, better forks,HP rear shocks & cafe it.Even put some buell parts in the motor & end up with a bike you can have fun on & be the proud "builder" of.
Just my 2%.Then again I have a distain for the HD corporate monster.I just have an addiction to the products(as long as they have been properly modified)Still can't "chop" a buell, just ain't right. They kinda work great right out of the box.

You mean like my new R?

once the 1125r is paid off, I may just have to snag me a street rod. It's as close to a cruiser I can get.

BTW, great looking bike Buellinachinashop.

"And you are one of the few people smart enought to have bought one."

Somebody here, who rides and reports on bikes, stated in a pictures thread somewhere, when asked what he though of the Street Rod....."The best bike Harley has made".

Those words sold this bike. Thanks Dave.

"All you'll have to do is take a test ride to see it's just as uncomfortable as it is cool looking."

What Glitch said. I was considering ditching the Buell for a cruiser, and the Nightster was the only one I found appealing.

I'm still on the Buell. Who knew a sportbike could be more comfortable than a Harley? Rear suspension is simply nonexistent, and if you think about making a turn, you'll drag a peg. Scared the crap outta me first time.

I did like the engine though. Much smoother at lower speeds than Buell ever has been. No mysterious, incurable surging.

XL 1200 Roadster, the one with the high performance heads, warm cam and duo front brakes with adjustable suspension, you know, the one they don't make anymore. That's the Sporty I like.

But then, I do ride a Blast.

"Its a girls bike"
I hear it every time I take my Sporty out for a ride. Sucks to play catch up to it, and that smoked tail light you will be staring at all day from your roadcoach. And a lil more salt for your wound, its still an 883.
Ride what you want. The Buell is my workhorse, the Sportster is the pampered custom.

I've heard "it's a girls bike" I don't think so. But I have heard the re-sale value is low, if that matters to you. The dynas are really nice, but getting pricey. I think anybody who talks down about a mans bike is an a$$ anyway. Hope you get one that makes you happy.

"...get the scoot you want." -- Tramp.

Still the best advice. Riding always feels better when you love what's between your legs.

Boy, does that sound wrong!
