Cool. I'm seeing them here in Houston on the 20th. It will be a little different seeing Down and The Sword in a big venue. The last time I saw both of them I was up front at a club the size of my living room. We have club seats so it should be good. I can't wait either. Have fun and give us a review of the show.

I saw Metallica back in '86 when they opened for Ozzy. I've been a fan ever since.
I'm glad I got to see Cliff Burton play.
I wonder what they would be like if he was still around.

They wouldn't have had 20 years of crappy albums and a condenscending attitude.

HOWEVER: The new album is excellent! They did say that it is the first time they've let a bass player contribute to the song writing since Cliff.

I'd given up on them when I heard the Black album. Haven't liked a thing they've done since. But I love Death Magnetic. I can't believe how good it is. Cliff Burton would be proud.

I've been jam'n Down & The Sword on Youtube and Pandora Radio.
I think I want to see them as much as Metallica.

I've been road tripping to see Down for a few years now. They are very good live. The sword as well especially for a bunch of young ones. My wife won tickets to the Monsters of rock in England in 92...I started a new job 2 days after she left and couldn't go. Metallica headlined with 100k people. I bought Kill em all on vinyl the day it came out, but like spatten said I lost interest at the Black album. I'm liking the new one for sure. Cliff'em All!

I first saw Metallica at Monsters of Rock (the American stadium tour)... Was a fan every since the creepin death album. Some of the stuff on the Black Album was cool. but after that I think they were so-so...

Used to really like Lars and try to play the drums like him... But ever since the napster deal, I think he is a pompus, arrogant azz...

Still, nothing like Creeping Death or CLiff Em All to get the blood flowing!!!

The new stuff sounds decent enough...

Jim,

Sweet guitar licks, I'm impressed.

It does feel really strange to be promoting a Metallica album after calling them a bunch of pussies for so many years. I wrote them off as a cover band like Rod Stewart.

I gotta say, other than the Unforgivable, that is a VERY strong album. I'm liking it more than Justice, probably because it has discernable bass. It also has a more emotional punk/metal feel, possibly because of Trujillo's influence, but also in-line with most of their punk and NWOBHM covers. The emotion was missing on Justice, a great album, but very structured and dry. Death Magnetic has it all.

It does still feel like a dream that this killer album came out, like it is breaking immutable laws of nature. Nobody comes back after that may years.

Rick Rubin rules, Bob Rock sucks .....

Thanks for validating my metal geekiness Jim.

I saw them a couple of times on the Justice tour with Queensryche. It was great. They had 100% killer songs on 4.5 albums at that point.

I wish I'd seen the all-mighty Cliff in action. He is a legend.

Forgot to mention, one of my best buds saw Metallica tour with Raven on the Metal Up Your Ass tour. Lucky SOB, I could have gone with him, but I wasn't clued into Metallica quite yet.

The two of us saw Maiden this year, about 25 years after we saw them together the first time. Best Maiden show I've seen yet, with the possible exception of the Ozzfest where they only played off the first four albums (I missed Clive terribly on some of those songs).

I've always been a Phil Anselmo fan ,and love what he's done with Down. That being said-- R.I.P. Dimebag...

Is Phil sober enough to perform consistently now? He was a mess the time I saw him with Superjoint, not making any sense at all. He has some demons to fight for sure.

What was the deal with Phil and Pantera?
When they said he had better not show up at Dimebags funeral... It must have been bad.

I was never a big fan, but I remember that Phil was a bad junkie. I remember interviews where he made no sense at all, just wasted and belligerant.

nice lineup... i had no idea Down still existed. Wish Pantera was still together then Dimebag would still be here.

I seen Dimebag and his band Damage Plan with Hatebreed and UnEarth just weeks before that douche canoe shot his ass... What a waste!

R.I.P Dimebag!!

If you guys liked Pantera, do you dig Lamb of G-d? To me they are the next evolutionary step.

I love Lamb's music, but I get a headache from the vocals, seriously. Must be a generational thing.

The only Cookie Monster voice I really like is Opeth. Could listen to Mike all day.

Too bad that I will be arriving for 2 days in the Columbus area for work 2 weeks late. Anything of merit going on between early afternoon Sunday, November 23rd and midday Tuesday, November 25th?

I've got some stuff (outside of work, which will actually be in Granville) planned already, but I'm always on the search for the elusive 'something better'. I don't know what I'll have for a rental car, but the gas is paid for so some traveling is not out of the question.

Any ideas?

Phil said in a magazine article that he wanted Dimebag to die or something along those lines. Phil would have been NOTHING without Dime, and it was Phils inability to handle his drugs that ruined the band.

If that tool that shot Dime (and in turn got SMOKED by that cop with a shot gun) wanted to shoot who was to blame for the fall of Pantera, he shoulda shot Phil.

Back on topic, I refuse to ever support Metallica after that recording disaster St Anger. Any one that can try to drop a deuce like that on their fans and call it gold needs to hang it up and walk away.

It was a good show. Sword opened up with a 30 min. set and I give the a big Thumbs up.

Down came out and I liked the music but Phil should not talk so much..... I don't have a problem with dedicating a song to Dimebag... But when you say Down was formed from some great band, you should say what band... no just Pantera.... Oh... and telling the crowd the suck... not to smart..45 min + or -

Metallica came out and put on a good show. I have seen them every 2 or 3 years since 1986 so there was no big WOW moment for me. I will say they had smiles on their faces and said thank you ALOT to the crowd and that attitude keeps me coming back. They ended the night buy turning on the house light so they could see the crowd and play Seek and Destroy..... as soon as they started playing black beach balls with Metallica and Death Magnetic printed on them dropped from the ceiling. It was cool seeing 100 or so black beach ball getting batted all over the place....

Larz and Jaymz seem to be much more grateful and humble about everything lately.
