IIRC, broken throttle shafts are occasionally an issue on Buell S3's and X1's. $500 for a throttle body does seem pretty steep, especially considering the only thing you REALLY need is a new throttle shaft which amounts to about 10% of the throttle body.

Yeah. My X1 shaft broke and my throttle body was $92 and it came with the TPS already installed.

I can see that the new XB parts incorporate the manifold but still why so expensive?

It should be possible to buy the shaft alone.

Let the games begin. Although the dealer promised to "keep me informed", they didn't. I called today to check and after about 5 minutes on hold they told me - "Oh ..your part did come in this morning and we ought to be able to get it on the lift tomorrow"

Cool

But I had to ask "So, since it's only a 3-4 hour job ( based on the estimate price) then it ought to be ready tomorrow, right?"

Well..........I can't remember the exact words but the there was no way he going to be pinned down.

I will pay a visit in the morning. One of the other things I want to check on was how they justify "almost an hour" of labor to troubleshoot it - when it takes 8 torx bolts and the two hoses disconnected to see what I had already told them was the problem - and actually handed them the broken throttle body pulley shaft I had already removed

Book times tend to be inflated a bit. Sometimes they go over but don't charge it, sometimes they finish it faster and make a few bucks. Its a flat rate thing, they go to the computer, pick remove/replace part xyz, it auto charges abc hours. This is standard practice in most repair shops and repair fields.

Called today - 24 hours after it was supposed to back on the lift. At first I was told the part hadn't come in yet. I let her know that the day before I was told the part WAS in and that the bike should go on the lift that day. She put me on hold for about 5 minutes and then then came back to say that the part was in, but the Buell Tech had not been in for a couple days and that hopefully it'll go on the lift tomorrow ( ? Sunday)

Looking on the bright side, I guess I should be pleased that they are waiting for the Buell Tech to do the work....

Finally got the bike back this morning. I'm a bit under the weather so I trailered it and didn't ride it - but -

It came in UNDER the estimate by about $50. Service manages stated parts were cheaper than expected

I got a 20% rebate, in the form of a dealer-specific gift card. Apparently they do this for all service bills over $700. It's good for service, parts, merchandise - anything under the roof

Still a painful bill, but that took a bit of the sting out of it
