We want to be the change you need.
If you bring us a dollar, we will give you 4 quarters, or two fifty cent pieces. But we also want to be your source for the odd change you need.
Say 5 nickels 5 pennies, two dimes, a quarter, and 67 pecos (embracing our Southern Brothern)
We want to be where your dollar stops, and your change begins. ; )

Fats, I thought this was the rich republican; reset your basis, or take whats left of your capital gains sale?

You called it:

"If Obama wins tomorrow, you will see a pretty large sell off between now and the end of the year. Individuals will take the 15% capital gains rate and reposition those assets elsewhere. They may even buy the same shares and are simply resetting their basis. Once they "buy in" to their new position, they will be much less likely to turn over those shares going forward. The economy will be less agile, tax revenues will fall."

Frankly, it'd be darn tough to hang on either of them and that link, even to my conservative eyes, looks darn suspicious.

Do you have any corroborating source?

I took my entire 401(k). . went "chicken" and bought t-bills 3 months ago anyway. They interest rate on them dropped to 0% 3 days after I bought. I ain't earning much, but I'm not loosing any.

Let me know if you come up with another source. I suspect we'll see lots of this stuff bantered about.

He's our President. I'm not fan but he should be entitled to the same chance we'd expect of the the Dems if McCain had won.

Fair is. If we loose our principles, we can't expect any from others.

Guys.

It was a half joking/half serious post.

There are more forces at work than the election making up the gain or drop in a day.

I posted that to prove a point.

The same inanity has been going on for 8 years with Bush. Some of it justified. Much of it not.

Just like we can't hang 100% of every ill for every American citizen around the neck of Bush, we can't hang the highs and lows around the neck of Obama.

He is our President. If called to do so, we will fight to the death to defend him. Secret Service men and women will pledge their lives to protect him.

My hope is that the worst fears of the Right will not come to fruition. My hope is that the gravity of the oath to protect the Constitution of the United States will weigh upon him, and that he will comply with his oath. My hope is that he truly is a uniter and will work across the aisle and draw everyone under the tent with him. My hope is that we, as Americans, can get back to viewing each other as fellow members if this experiment in self governance rather than enemies of the state.

I am willing to give him the benefit of time.

At this point, he is starting with a clean slate. I don't want to hear that he is encumbered by the legacy of Bush any more than Democrats wanted to hear that Bush was encumbered by the legacy of Clinton. It's the Democrats ball to run with. We will see if the ideas of Democrats are really best for the United States.

We shall see. I will work to be fair in my judgment and evaluation.

As one of the leading participants in political threads here on BW, I move that we have a moratorium on political threads for a little while. I know I am tired of them, and I can guarantee those less interested in politics are.

In all of the fun that has been the political threads over the last two years, if I have offended or angered anyone by my positions or passion, I beg your forgiveness.

I'm honestly a really nice guy in person. You can hardly see my horns and tail.

No really.

God Bless America and protect and guide the heart and mind of OUR President, Barack Obama.

Quite a difference between "seizing" someone's 401(k) and lowering the tax breaks associated with allowing sums to be taxed at a lower rate, when withdrawn, rather than a higher rate at the time of contribution.

I tried to find a non-blog link to post about that 401K thing, and this was the closest I could find:

http://www.workforce.com/section/00/article/25/83/ 58.php

I'm getting the feeling that maybe they want the 401K money to play with for 30-40 years while people are waiting to retire instead of the stock market and mutual funds?

IF it's true, I hope it's just one of many things they're considering and that they'll move right on past it. 'Cause I think we already have a government mandated retirement plan.

And I don't think it's working all that well...

Another possibility would be opening up the federal employees version of a 401K, the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) to all american workers. TSP works like a 401K, but because of the federal government's huge bargaining power, the fees are only .15% a year. Obama and the congressional democrats have also proposed opening up the federal employee health plans to private sector employees and individuals- the rates are often quite a bit lower than what an idnividual or samll business can get in the private market.

I'm not a fan of Obama's plan but the man isn't president yet. He is the president elect.

He can't do anything for a little bit yet.

So until he is standing on the stage with his hand on the Bible or Koran or whatever he chooses (being that we are a country of freedom of religion after all)

You can not not even begin to talk any kind of smack for a job he hasn't even begun to do yet...

Frankly, it's the part about ending 401Ks and FORCING people to "invest" 5% of their paychecks that bothers me.

Why, exactly, is that different from social security that we have now?

Oh, right, the government wouldn't use that money for anything else. THAT would never happen. It's never happened yet, right?

We belong to a PEO, an organization of many employers joined under one organization, to do essentially the same thing without the government. As a member of the PEO, instead of having 30 employees there are thousands. So we get good WC rates, decent health care rates, and our 401K is very low in fees.

And we didn't even need Uncle Sam to help us!
