My 2001 M2L's extended warranty ended yesterday, so HOG stock should be up a bit (LOL). In that 55K miles it's needed $2000 in repairs, suggesting that future miles will not be thrifty ones. That high mileage makes it next to worthless- air cooled Harley motors often need at least top end work to make it this far, if not a complete engine rebuild. And many Harleys never even make it to anywhere near 55K miles, their owners too scared to ride in the rain, cold, heat etc. to ever challenge their Harley's durability. Everybody knows this, and Buell resale values suffer as a result. If it's hard to sell a Buell with less than 20K miles, it'll be next to impossible to dispose of one with nearly triple that. So I'm stuck with the thing.

Now if Buell parts were on the shelf at every dealer and the belt on my Cyclone could be replaced at the roadside in under an hour, I wouldn't be afraid to ride it anywhere. But despite being only six years out of production the Tubers are already essentially orphans. Despite updates, the belts are still breaking and replacement is an all day job in a well equipped garage. So clearly I can't afford to sell my Cyclone at a huge loss, but at most it's not going to be able to wander any farther from home than day trips.

So any suggestions as to how I can salvage this lemon?

Give it to me for a small fee, I'll take it.

Sell for anything you can and use the money to buy yourself a life.

Be sure to tell Lafayette. . . he just foolishly passed 100,000 miles on his Buell and the top has never been off.

Generalizations and conjecture.

Sell the think if you are that miserable. It's like stuffing a firecracker in your ass and complaining. You are a fire fighting arsonist.

I'm going snowboarding.

I don't ski or snowboard. I'll just have to go for a ride.

Wait a minute...in 8 years you rode it an average of almost 7,000 miles per year and spent an average $250 per year in repairs. That sounds like less than $.04 per mile in repairs. That doesn't really sound all that lemon-y to me. And it sounds like you got your money's worth out of your extended warranty.

You say you'd take a "huge loss" to sell it now--did you really expect to sell an 8-year old vehicle for anything approaching what it cost new?
