Court says paper is better than email, so this is going in the mail on Monday.

quote:

Mr. Ray Price
Ray Price Harley Davidson/Buell
1126 South Saunders Street
Raleigh, NC 27603

Dear Mr. Price:

I am an extraordinarily happy customer.

My Buell motorcycle, which I bought from your dealership in late 2005, recently suffered an engine failure. Your technicians later determined this was caused by a broken exhaust spring, which allowed a valve to drop into the rear cylinder, extensively damaging the top end of the motor.

Since the warranty had expired seven months before, I assumed I was on my own at this point. Two of your employees, Mike Miller and Randy Hamme, felt that these engines should not fail with only 53,000 miles. Randy contacted Harley Davidson and convinced them to cover the engine under their goodwill program. Mike kept me informed as to what was happening and what my options were.

I am extremely grateful that your dealership has treated me so well. I have already spoken with your grandson, Jordan, about purchasing another bike. I look forward to doing business with you for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Jim Nance

Mike Miller is Mikethebike72 on this board. It's difficult to appreciate how nice it is to have someone who knows how the process works, until you need someone who knows how the process works.

I bought a bike today.

Good deal!! It's nice to see a dealer look after someone...and someone post about it. All we every hear is the bad stories.

Only 53,000 miles? Sounds like they think it should last a million or two! Hey that's OK with me!

Glad they looked after you.

Stories like this are good news and I'm glad you have been treated so honorably by the dealer. I can share that I have had similar exceptional treatment by Toyota, GMC, and Nissan in the last year for auto stuff. It sure is great when the people you trusted with your purchase seek your satisfaction after the sale.

Nice bike! So, did you get the bags too?

Jon - What I did was trade the 06 Uly with the failed motor, for another 06 Uly with 40k fewer miles. I kept the bags (and plastic) from my original Uly.

Wow!!
It's so nice when things go right.
You need to get on the ball and get those 40,000 caught back up!

Harley-Davidson is always hyphenated.

:-)

Cool story and nice to hear.

Paper is always better.

Harley-Davidson is always hyphen-ated and if you dare use the term "Harley" . . you'll be booted out of meetings. . . .generally by one of the Davidson family.

: )

I've got a similar story to tell and a letter to mail to the dealer with copies to Messrs. Flickinger and Buell (anyone else I should copy?). And a case of Yuengling to drop off to Bob the Buell tech for going to bat for me.

The letter's in progress (I'm trying to get full details of events) but let's just say the motor in my ~23000 mile '06 Uly which was out of warranty for a good 5 months was also replaced (due to an oil pump drive gear failure). I don't have the Uly - I traded it and took delivery of an '08 Firebolt about 10 days ago. Better bike for my small stature and type of riding.

I was seriously looking at other makes but when a dealer and company stand behind a product like this, they get the benefit of the doubt from this particular customer.

I'll post details and the letter once I've got everything together.
