The best things about HMB are:

The Surf

The quiet

Mezza Luna restaurant

HMB coffee roasters and all the hot surfer girls sipping there

The amazing roads immediately east, up off of 92 and 11 miles down rt. 1 to 84, or another few miles to Pedscadero (& Duarte's, the best motorcycle roadhouse this side of Applejacks, which is just up 84)

...can ya tell I miss living in San Mateo County?

Tramp-where's Duartes? I'm trying to get to HMB soon. I've heard of alice's resturaunt (any good?) But don't know about Duartes. I'm in Pittsburg, but I used to surf HMB. I like that little Mexican spot on 1. Oh And that English place withh 110 kinds of beer on tap!

Duarte's is in Pescadero...right off of Highway 1 (Pescadero Road) on the corner at the light (the only one in town). Alices is pretty good too at the intersection of highways 84 and 35 in Skylonda.

2008xb12scg:

Here's a link for Duarte's:
http://www.duartestavern.com/

...and a 2nd party site's review of Apple Jack's:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/apple-jacks-inn-la-honda

While Alice's is a nice place for breakfast, it tends toward being a tad hyped/manufactured, and as of its last two changes of ownership, has become more of a pose-a-thon. This is no fault of the establishment's, though...still the domain of the shiny-new Dianese-of-the-week-and-fair-weather-Ducati crowd, though.

Apple Jack's is a stellar establishment a ways down 84 toward the Ocean, it's in historic (think "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test") La Honda, a few yards up the road from Ken Kesey's old place, where the Angels and the psychedelic community first merged. In fact, it's still a stop on the Poker Run of one of the oldest, and certainly hippest 81 charters.
Extremely hospitable, laid-back vibe under the Redwoods of La Honda....I put tall hours in, there, in the late '90s.

Duarte's represents one of the truly old motorcycle roadhouses of the prewar period, and it served as a respite to the dear-john recipients of WWII who could afford only 2-wheelers (HD flats and knucks) and cheap beer, as they thundered around the California coast and collected into growing packs of the unemployed, hungry, shell-shocked combat vets, who proudly wore trophy booty taken from German casualties- maltese crosses, nazi helmets, etc., scaring hell outta the locals.

While part of Duarte's has evolved, another part remains that brings you back to that time, and it's not to be missed.
Yep- I kinda miss living in San Matoe county.

Hit the Half Moon Bay Coffee Company, on the south corner of Rt.s 92 and 1, for kickass coffee and homemade pies. The Key Lime there is as authentic as I've had this side of Key Largo. Often a few Ulys and BMW GS scoots there, too.

If you likehttp://local.yahoo.com/info-21304731-half-moon-bay -coffee-company-half-moon-bay?csz=Half+Moon+Bay%2C +CA+94019

If you dig outstanding , high-end cuisine, esp. game, ride skyline to 9 to saratoga, ca., (an extremelt twisty, breathtaking run through redwoods, overlooking the Pacific at times) to La Fondue http://lafondue.com....it's high on my own top 10 of US eateries.
The pretentious-but-polite Kalifornian waitstaff can be a bit too bear, but the chow kicks ass.
