This got me to thinking. Why are tires black? Well, a quick Google search and I found this page: http://www.properautocare.com/whyaretirbla.html

Motorcycle tires probably wear out before any serious UV or ozone damage occurs but it is interesting.

Dyna calls colored tires "stupid looking", Ray_maines calls them "the geekiest looking thing" he has ever seen. Me? I call them "dorky". Can't we all just get along!!

Seriously, put whatever colored tires you like on your bike. I personally would never put any tire color other than black on mine.

Koz...I am curious, why wouldn't your brother-in-law's brother be your brother-in-law?

That's easy. If my sister is married to Joe, then Joe is my brother-in-law. Joe's brother Bob, is not my brother-in-law. Simple!

Not trying to answer for Koz, just showing how simple it is!

There's a fortune out there waiting for someone to figure out how to make usable tires out of chrome...

ChromeWalls instead of WhiteWalls.

Let's see, white tires on a white S2 with white rims. Nah, would clash with my gray/black jacket and anthracite (gray) helmet.

Interesting...

All the guys whole disliked the tires were "over the hill" (+40)...

I must be part of the crazy young generation at 30 years old...

I'm over 40, didn't say I disliked them, and in fact own a set of color tires (green, because blue wasn't available at the time) on my bicycle.
Guess I am different in every sense.
The part I don't like about them is the retread part. All those road gators on the freeways are truck retreads.

People used to say the same things about colored handgrips, when they first appeared. It's all a matter of taste.

Hey Crusty, Hope this finds you well. Let us know that you've still got the world by the balls!

I like black everything. Bike, tires, frame, motor, you just can't have too much black on a motorcycle. You go out and piss a great big bucket of money on bolt on chrome, straight off the vanity wall (this is based on my on behavior,) and then you spend more time rubbing than riding.

At the same time if you dig them colored tires then go for it. It's your ride, your money, your likes/dislikes.

For me it's not the colors that worry me. My opinion is that they aren't for me. What worries me is that I see retreads come apart all the time, that's the main reason 18 wheelers scare me and I get away from them as soon as I can. Retreads have been around long enough that the retread technology should have gotten better so they'd stay together. But ya see so many gator backs in the road, that I'm not convinced they're safe.

Ya'll are killing me!
People keep calling themselves old on this board, I look at their profile, and we're all the same age! Bigdaddy, Buckinfubba, Dyna, ect we were all born in '63... I ain't old, I don't feel old, I never look in the mirror so I don't know if I look old...

I should've known better than to talk about tires -- my idiot bulb was glowing.

Took off for a ride and picked up a screw of some type and the rear tire retired. Couldn't get it to Brian, couldn't get it home, and had to take it in BlueRidge HD in Hickory (don't kick me out of the Tilley's crew Brian :-( ) New D207 all said and done was $249.50. Ouch.

It wasn't BuckinFubba but they did treat me great and Chris is a big Buell fan -- even let me ride his 12R while they were putting the tire on.

Tires are meant to be black, leathers are meant to be black, helmets are meant to be black. Even the racing bicycle I had was black. My current one is titanium with a matte finish because that was the only way it came from the factory. I need to have it powder coated black! Of course, I'm over 40 as well.

they make black tires as well, nice compound for much less than name brands, using name brand carcasses. retreads or not, still have to meet DOT standards, time will tell?

Any one notice how inexpensive these tires are?
I would'nt go with the colored ones but the black ones at $130.00 for a pair sounds like a good deal.

120/70/17 =59.95
180/55/17 =69.95

Sorry I was away from work (no time to surf). Anyway, was out trying to eliminate what little tread I have left on my current tires. I bought my bike in August of 2002 and still have been able to ride at least once every month that I have owned it. Not bad living in Wisconsin.

I loved the comment about the colored handgrips. I wonder the parents of the people complaining about the colored tires thought Henry Ford was a sellout when he started producing cars in colors rather then just black?

I really wish you had a Volcano grey bike to put those rims next to.... I want to see what it looks like. I have the PM rims right now (they came with the bike) but I like the style of the stock rims much better. I have been trying to find a used set at a good price.
