That's ok, I hounded a GW through WPG before leaving Suches.

He had the same problem.

It's not hard to ride curvy roads when you are using the whole thing.

In his defense, he needed the whole road to keep from dragging the cylinder heads off.

He was gettin' it.

I always enjoy watching those and there, several years ago, was a classic Gold Wing video.

But, and I blame age, I'm a lot less enthusiastic because several times a year I have friends die and have to listen to folks opine "I don't know what could have happened, he was such a nice guy and such a good rider".

I've done my share of stupid public roads stunts, survived on luck and become, in my sunset years, a very dull rider.

He is kinda all over the place. Don't get me wrong - I don't think I could handle a Goldwing like that. But I much prefer slower, in complete control riding rather than really fast but over the edge of the white, yellow, or dashed lines...

I want to meet the maniac who would ride on the back with that guy! Will she (or he) ride with him again? I wouldn't want to ride anywhere near him.

Sorry, but the guys a chowderhead.

Was that Tom??

Most of the Locals I ride with use both lanes all the way up 129...most of them are also European and are taught to use as much road as possible for better sight lines.

>>>Most of the Locals I ride with use both lanes

That's true in most venues and almost always seems like a good idea until you have seen 4 or 5 folks who are good friends, meet their demise via the grill of a car/truck.

I never argue this stuff. Like handguns, abortion and helmets, it gets controversial and folks tend to argue.

I, again owing to age, could care less what others think and I respect the fact that folks make their own decisions based on their own circumstances.

I've made my decisions and they work for me.

The video scares my not as a result of rider skill or daring but for what . . to me . . . is pure stupidity.

Thanks just my personal opinion.

I could pass a lot of things using that much real estate on the road.
If i were the guys being passed I'd let him by, pretty spooky to be crowded in and out of your lane by an unpredictable rider ( I know from experience)

I'm guilty of riding like that 3 decades ago when I was young, fearless and lived on the east coast.

Got smart finally after loosing 3 good friends who became organ donors before their time.
Still miss those guys.

I made one of the stupidest moves ever on a motorcycle showing off before a group of Buell riders on a B.R.A.G. ride at Pocono in 1997.

I survived and learned a lot. It took me a long time and a lot of apologizing.

Racing occurs on tracks and I love it. There is nothing like bending the S2 over, feeling the back gently slide as your knee kisses the ground and going through a fast sweeper in total control.

I am a racer, but I love to play on a track.

Even those among us who are skilled, and we've got a bunch here, racers, will likely tell you that racing and riding on public roadways are quite differing things with differing skill sets.

Sliding through turn 3 at Heartland Park Topeka is a blast. I used to ask myself . . "what if I lost it right now?" and the answer was a simple "you's slide through that 5 acres of wet grass.

I recall getting off the East Lawrence exit from the KTA one day and I was running hot, real hot and the same "what would happen?" thought ran through my mind. I looked at the jagged edge of the torn Armco barrier, the exposed anchor bolts and ragged edge of the Aluminum frangible light base that had been torn away and at the light poles and it scared the heck out of me.

I preach to no one and am thankful I survived some incredibly stupid moves. I've always ended up riding with folks who are far more skilled than I but even the best will assert that there is no level of skill that warrants using race skills and speeds on public roads.

Too many folks, innocent civilians, are placed in danger.

It's just unbright.

One of my friends, the late Josef Boyd, was arguably the most skilled Gold Wing rider of all time and I spent many test hours in the hills of CA and on Ortega Highway with him. He taught me a lot.

While I agree with the speed part, I believe using the skills part is just plain smart. If you know what your 100% is on the track, then you should know what your 85-90% is on the street. Sometimes you get into a situation that requires you to go that extra 10%. Not using it could be bad.

I think he did pretty well. It looked like a lot of work. The road was clear when he crossed lanes and at least he wasn't all over the opposing lane like a lot of fools do.

I've slowed down a bunch in the last few years. Dad's deal was a major influence and then three days after he died I fell in the shower, fractured my eye socket and popped my eye out. Six years later if I am fatigued I still get double vision when I look hard left or hard right across the bridge of my nose. I was riding Deal's Gap before Pete and Doris renamed it "Crossroads of Time" and before all the crowds began to plague the area. Back when riding the area was just plain fun. In the last three years I have been to the Gap but refused to ride over the Dragon just because of the crowds and the stupidity that permeated the air. No doubt it's fun twisting up the wick on mountain roads but the law of averages says your luck will run out one of these days. I have a friend who states that he never wastes a road. It's a philosophy that I used to live by. But now I live by the rule that I never waste a trip. It's no fun going home with your bike in the back of a truck while you're nursing aching bones in a cramped cab. I know this from experience.

When you've had a serious accident, your riding style changes, The French have a saying "Ca met du plomb dans la tete" translated "It put's some lead in your head". It's true too I'm a lot less pushy than I used to be. (I'm getting older too, but don't tell my knees)

I still use all the road I can for better visibility. plus I pay enough in taxes & one thing & another to do so, I want to get my moneys worth.

The guy was riding well, didn't cross any double lines, didn't disturb anybody else.
We all have day's when we're just "In the groove" looks to me like he had one of those rides.
I bet he was totally f****d at the end of it though.
