Just wanted to post a great experience with a bad situation. I left home last Wed to make my way to Buelltoberfest with a stop-over in Roswell, GA after visiting a customer in Marietta. Checked out of the hotel Thursday morning anxious to complete the final 2 hours of the trip to Suches.

Well, 15-20 miles into the trip and my bike starts stuttering and missing. I look down and both gauges not working and a dim check engine light. I get off at the next exit and the bike dies as I pull into a gas station. Tried to restart and it is dead.

I pull the battery and call a taxi. I had him take me to the local Autozone where they tested the battery. The guy behind the counter said it tested good, but needed charging. I left it with him for an hour while I had breakfast. They charged the battery and I bought a cheap multimeter. Called the cab and he picked me up and took my back to my bike.

I put the battery in the bike, started it and saw that it was only at 12.6 volts and dropping while the engine was running.

I called Stone Mountain HD/Buell and the girl in the service area (sorry, forgot her name) listened to my sob story about being stranded and said she would get me right in, if I could make it there. I turned off the XM radio, heated vest and used the internal battery on the GPS and headed out toward Stone Mountain (39 miles away). I was careful to take my hand off the brake after coming to a stop so the brighter brake lights wouldn't drain the battery. I made it just as the bike started to sputter and when I turned it off, the fan sounded like it was barely running.

Anyway, they diagnosed it as a bad voltage regulator and fixed me up. Not used to a dealer having a part in stock. I was back on the road within 3 hours and had a great time at Buelltoberfest. All thanks to a dealer willing to take in a stranded rider without an appointment. I don't know if that would have happened around here.
