Hello Buell owners, I need your help. Which is a better more reliable bike, the XB12R or the 1125R? My friend Rob had the 2008 1125R, but decided to trade it in for another Harley. =) Anyway, he had some problems with his 08 and now that the 09s are out and they both come in the White and Blue, I’m not sure which to get. I want a bike that’s not going to cost me an arm and a leg to keep running. I have an F150 to put gas in for that. I want a bike that I can ride to work, take off and chill, and hit the corners without it crapping out on me. Also one that the maintenance isn't going to kill me. So any information that you can give me about the two bike, the differences between the years of the bikes and any issues anyone has had, it would be greatly appreciated.

The XB is slighter easier to maintain. However, either one should work fine and be reliable. Just choose your flavor; air or water cooled!!

I almost pulled the trigger on a 08 1125R, but,,,,,

So far, I'm convinced the 1125r is no faster(than I want to go), smoother, reliable than my 9R on my favorite roads.

Put me on some big sweepers and then the 1125r wins, but @ that point I'm in "go directly to jail do not pass go" speeds.

I like my roads, like I like my ________ curvy and tite, and I cant ask for any better than my 9R. (maybe a motard, but thats like riding a 2x4)

I prefer the 9R over the 12R and the 1125R for technical mountain roads. (my playground)

9R's are cheap now a days.

No, mine is not for sale. I honestly cant imagine selling that bike. Too bad they don't make em any more.

I have three air cooled Buells and haven't had any problems worth mentioning. How much riding experience do you have ? The 1125 is supposed to be quite a handfull. Personally I wouldn't buy an 1125 with someone elses money. But that's just me. A later model XB9R is the best Buell there is...in my opinion. They are priced reasonably and I have never heard anyone say they didn't like theirs.

How much time in the saddle of an 1125r have you spent?

Granted I had a cityX and not a 9r, but the 1125r does everything better than my cityX. It accelerates quicker, stops better, handles better and feels more "flickable" under me than the xb did. Don't get me wrong the Xb's are great bikes, but the 1125r just does everything the cityx did better and more.

Nope. Ever thing I've read and my experience on it finds the 1125 to be a rather easy bike to ride. Very smooth.

I've talked to several people who demo'd that new RC8 from KTM, and they all said that it was very twitchy and hard to ride smooth. They all had time on an 1125r also and said that they liked the 25r better as it was so much more rider friendly.

but back on topic... the XB definitely wins the MPG race, from what people have posted on the 1125 Board, the 1125R at it's best still gulps more fuel than an XB at it's worst. There was talk of the '09s getting better mileage but I'll bet it's still gonna be 10+mpg lower than the XB in the real world.

Small price to pay. If you want fuel mileage, buy a scooter.

I've got BOTH.No,not the 1125r but a 1 liter V-2 watercooled highly modified superbike.

When i ride the XB12r OR X1 i have TONS of fun.

The XB12r is also a very refined product sorted over many years.

If i were picking between the XB or 1125r i'd probably chose the 1125r,but the XB shouldn't be discounted.It REALLY IS a great bike.Simplistic too,and easy to wrench

Superman, look at and ride them both and get the one that gives you the biggest chubby. But it seems like the xb is better suited for the street and the 1125 for the track. Also take into consideration the 2 different riding possitions. For some the 1125 is to much lean for others they like it.

Air cooled Buells are pretty much sorted, fairly reliable fairly low maintenance.

Wet ones are still too new to call, in my opinion, but Rotax have a good reputation for reliability.

Go ride em both & buy whichever one satisfies the most.

Ride them both. I love the aircooled Buells as streetbikes. They are a ton of fun. I've never felt a need for a superbike on the street.

How often will you have to get the valves adjusted in the 1125R. I bet it will run around $750 from the dealer. A guess... The XB12R, change your oils and minor adjustments the owners manual shows you how to do most of them. I would go for the 12R.

1. 12r Cheaper to buy use the extra money saved to upgrade the 12r in any way you see fit.
2. 12r Cheaper to maintain just because of the valve adjustment alone on the 1125r.

Yes i own a 12R had it for 6 weeks now and have 2000 miles on her and every mile was great fun even the ones going to work.
