Garmin Nuvi 260 and I ordered the RAM mount for it.... What I wanted to know is some must have "Favorite" saved location.... So far I have saved, The Buell Factory, TWO, Nelson Ledges, Beaverun...Home... Dad... Mom... Whats in your GPS saved locations? | ||

Yes that is the best part. My co-worker never understood why i used GPS to get to work every day, but he has it in his truck now and fully understands. I love just heading in a general direction with no care of where i am going. Starts to get dark, click route me home | ||

Next time, try setting your GPS to take your via the shortest route (not the fastest). You'll be amazed at the stuff / places you'll find.  Make sure you're not in a hurry though. | ||

"Favorites" on my GPS are Blackhawk Farms, Road America, Pine Bluff, WI, and Leland, WI. I also have a bunch of routes saved in my GPS. | ||

I'd also add to set your "avoidances" to avoid interstate/freeways. Then when you select "shortest" route, it really gets fun! | ||

I got a Tom Tom One last month ($149). Strip-tied the 12V accessory outlet on the cast magnesium fairing structure of the 12R. Made a temporary foam cradle and used blue low tack masking tape to mount it on my instrument cluster. I feel like a guided missile now. I can easily make 20 location sales calls in 5 hours if I plan my route in advance. GPS rocks! | ||

Court - My father and I used to do a variation of that when I was a kid. We'd go up to the lookout tower on top of the tallest mountain in the area (he was a cop and we could get into the "real" lookout tower, not the short one below it). We'd bring binoculars and a topo map, and find something way out there, and then he'd drive and I'd navigate trying to get to whatever it was that we saw. Sometimes it'd be a whole day of looking for something. I think that's where I got my excellent sense of direction. I think I'll try that once I'm back up north where they have mountains and lookout towers. Down here all they have are fire towers. | ||

Court, that sounds exactly like I used to do when I rode with my brother and our cousins. No maps,GPS, or anything. Just pick a point, a cell tower, mountain top, etc. Made for some very fun rides. Also take roads with interesting descriptive names. Just pull up at the intersection and see which way everyone would like to go and then go the other way. Definitely, had a quite a few late nights, as well as a few wet ones too. Good memories. | ||

Well. . . I confess you guys have got me stirred up. The rain hasn't abated here but I'm thinking I need to get some miles in. New Jersey, as many of you know who have watched the BMW car commercials that are filmed on the famous "ribbon road" know, has some spectacular roads. New York, in the area of West Point and Harriman State Park, has some doozies too. What I haven't hit yet are the thousands of miles of unpaved fire roads in the New Jersey forests. They word I'm getting is that if your motorcycle is legally registered and insured you can ride the fire roads. . . . Could be fun. | ||

Hey Court, come up this way to Vermont. The foliage is turning so watch out for wet leaves on the roads, but riding up the gap roads like route 17 and the notch will just make the trip worth it. Peggy Sue from BRAG commented that riding through Vermont was some of the best she'd been on - roads, that is... | ||

BTW Wolf - sorry for the hijack! My GPS has a few locations. Home, the dealership in NH, friends house in Saranac Lake. The places I go often enough I don't want to enter them in every time but not often enough that I can remember how to get there - like my grandparents camp in Union, ME. We go once a year, and the GPS saves us time by utilizing the "back roads" to get there. I don't always go by the GPS directions, but at least I know it's there to get me out of being lost. |
