When Az. first passed the seatbelt law a number of years ago, I complained about it. After wearing it for a while, I stopped noticing that it was there. After getting in a very bad accident, I was glad I was wearing it. |

My 08 ford crown vic seat belt buzzer is in the latch. If you buckle the passenger seatbelt into the driver's side latch the buzzer will go off. |

if u have a bench seat in the front, u can plug the middle passenger belt into the driver receptical |

I just picked up a 1972 Ford F250 4X4. I wish I could retro-fit it for shoulder belts. (probably can just have not researched) I feel naked with just the lap belt. |

I was raised wearing seatbelts and I feel naked without one. Just like it feels weird to ride without my Joe Rocket jacket and HJC helmet.
I'm not going to preach, but think about it, do the research. My buddy Jerry was hit without a seatbelt right after they made it a primary offense in Ohio. He was cited for it, but not the accident. The person's insurance who was cited would not pay for his personal injuries because they stated that the injuries (minor) would have been prevented by the seatbelt. I personally feel that if the person would have been in control, the accident would have never happened.

I've flipped a Jeep off-roading. The seatbelt held me in place until I unbuckled and wanged my head on the cage.
My Mustang was hit at around 40 mph by an uninsured driver. She and both of her kids were pretty banged up, both cars were totaled and I walked away. |

If you read the owner's manual, it might actually tell you how to turn it off. I don't know personally, but in our Jeep, the buzzer buzzes constantly. Constantly. Until you put on the seat belt. The salesman said you can't turn it off. But if you read the manual, somewhere buried in there are instructions for turning it off.
I wear my seatbelt, so it never much mattered to me.
BUT I am so freakin' tired of this "public burden" theory of safety. Christ, taken to its extreme, it applies to crossing the damn street.
Taxpayers pay for vegetables who weren't wearing their seatbelts. That's freakin' awesome. Do you know that that SAME line of thinking will probably someday be used to outlaw riding a motorcycle at all? Why should taxpayers pay for us to ride such a dangerous motorcycle?
Skiing is damn dangerous too. Why should I have to pay higher insurance because someone risked their lives going down a mountain at 60mph? Safety equipment or not, that's just dangerous.
And don't get me started about horseback riding. People can become PARAPLEGICS! My God, look at Christopher Reeves!
Why, by the way, am *I* paying the hospital bills for SMOKERS with LUNG CANCER?? Or heart-attack victims who go to McDonalds every day? Really shouldn't be my problem. Dangerous places to eat, for crying out loud.
Keep the public burden crap to a minimum, please? It's a tool the goverment uses to get their way by generating fear and indignation that is usually unverifyable with any real statistics.
Don't be a government tool.

I know i should wear it, im not advocating free choice or anything,i guess its something im not used to wearing so i dont. Another thing is that when i was 14 i broke my left collar bone, im 36 now so obviously its all healed and theres no pain but i have this mental issue that i dont like things touching it or rubbing against it. Its hard to explain but im always pulling on the shoulder belt part so it gets off of me.
I cant even wear a backpack it drives me nuts, im probably just retarded, i did hit my head hard when i broke the collar bone. |

What's the real problem then?
Q1. You find it uncomfortable?
Q2. You just like being contrary?
Q3. You rely on the airbag?
A1. Well then, If you find the belt pulls a bit tight, do what I do, put a clothes peg on it to stop it rewinding & give yourself a little slack, but not to much or the belt will rip your head off in an accident.
A2. Grow up for ***ks sake, & stop being so selfish, friends & family don't want to see you dead just because you think you know better.
A3. Don't rely on the bag entirely, it's designed to work in conjunction with the seatbelt, if you're not wearing the belt in some accidents the airbag can do more damage than the accident.
In the end it's your choice, same as riding with or without a helmet.
Neither are things I would do myself, even if it was allowed here. I've spent the better part of my life on the road as a truck driver, & seen enough accidents 1st hand to know that they're life savers!
I had a "head on" on my M2 last year, was wearing leathers bike boots & a Shoei full face, I hobbled away with a couple of sprained wrists & a cracked rib. Without the gear I'd not be here now.
A truck driver from one my local firms, lost his rig & laid it on it's passenger side, on a big down-hill not far from here a couple of weeks back, closed the motorway for 12 hours, he wasn't wearing a belt, fell across the cab & was pulled out the window as it slid down the road. He left a young family behind.
I hate to be preached at, & I hate preaching, but roads are crowded dangerous places, & the safer you stay yourself the safer it is for everybody else too. |
