At a dealer that shall go unnamed I was quoted a price of $42 for an air filter. Last I remember, they were under $20. What's the going price for a tuber air filter?

$42 seems exhorbitant.I remember last winter paying something like $27 for my X1 replacement which i've done three times now.

"Buellgrrl"??? I don't think i've read from that name in quite sometime.

You got a BMW???

I thought 42 was the universal answer to everything, life, the universe, well just everything.
Maybe the question is how much is an Air Filter replacement ?

I thought the price seemed way out of line, and no it wasn't a K&N. IIRC, a K%N runs around $50.

I get the feeling they jack the price up on the filters so they can make another $20 or so on every maintainence service... I have scratched that dealer off my list for new bike shopping.

You'd be wrong, $42.45 is what an 01 M2 replacement filter retails for. I'm not saying that it's not outrageous, but the dealer isn't screwing you around. I don't know why, but the old part# for the replacement filter shows it retailing for $12.35.

Get a forcewinder and a K&N filter. Then you just clean and oil it frequently.

Once stuff is out of regular production the price tends to skyrocket.

Try buying parts for import bikes. Everything tends to be more expensive.

Try the Buell race filter (oval CF). Don't know how tall you are, but it keeps the breadbox out of my (34" inseam) knees' way when I ride, and it comes with a K&N filter that's a fairly universal size/shape if you need to replace it. Contrary to popular belief, I've ridden in *heavy* rain more than a couple times and haven't sucked any water yet (don't have the M2 anymore, but have an S2 and S1W, both with the oval filter).

BTW, the unnamed dealer was Donahue HD/Buell in St.Cloud, MN. Looks like the price increase is coming from Buell, so I can't blame any individual dealer. Buell now wants slightly more for an air filer than BMW wants for an airhead one...

Holy Smoke! Buell wants the same price that other manufacturers want for a similar part! What a Rip Off!

I know I shouldn't feed the troll, but sometimes I just can't help it

Prove it.

Every part ever made for my 1995 Buell is still available from the factory and at the same prices.

Last week someone contacted me about how to get the S3 fairing bags. . . my reply "just oder them".

Give us the examples you base your statement on.
