anybody use/ride/heard of these tires?

they aren't one of the big four names, so i don't have any automatic trust in them, and i don't know what kind of mileage i'll get out of them. i read the reviews on their site, and on motorcycleusa.com, but didn't get any real world numbers.

i know they got their recipe from Yokohama, but i never have had Yokohama tires, not even on my cages. i've always favored pirelli, and never been disappointed.

i was gonna get metzlers next, but my wallet would rather i buy shinko's.

anybody have a first hand experince/ real-world reviews?

thanks,
-nilla

I have them on my bike they are not the greatest in the world but once they heat up they stick well. From what I understand the company bought out the yokohama molds and compounds. I have about 600 miles on them and have not had any problems with them yet, they are not as good as say metzler or pirrelli but i like them better than dunlops. Besides that they are cheap.

Me and my brother call em "Chinese ditch finders."

Corners/road race not so good.

Drag race tire cuz they cheap, and do ok in a straight line.

They ought to call them "boomerangs".

The question of Shinko tires seems to come up about once a month.

Matt, I have a pair of the Shinko 009 sport touring tires on my XB12R and have 3000 miles on them. At the current wear I expect them to last as well as the Pilot Roads I have used in the past. I have another set in the garage for the Firebolt and bought a set for a S3T that I just purchased. For the money they are a GREAT tire and don't let the want to be tire snobs turn you away from them, when they don't have any actual riding experience on them.

Just ran a set on my Uly. Only lasted about 2/3 of what I normally get out of the Pilot Roads, so I switched back to the Michelins. Also, the front cupped a bit.

I have a set of Raven 009's on my Uly. For my riding requirements they are fine; especially at the price, $154.88 to my door..
I have about 8k miles on them. They may go to 10k.

I have the ravens as well and for the fact that they are the same price for a set as most are for one tire. I know that the other brands are better tires but seeing as how I am not spending much time on the track I think they work fine for me.

ft_bstrd, sorry to bring up something that has been discussed several times here on badweb. i should have known better than to post a question without glancing in the archives first. my bad

barker, i saw your posts in my search, and you look like a broken record! you keep saying they are 'ditch finders'... do you/your bother have a personal experience to base this off of, or are you just expressing unfounded opinions?
i'm just asking, not trying to attack your credibility

cowboy, you really 'dated' your self there, with the 'kid that dates my grand daughter'. GOLLY, 72 and you still ride?!?! i can respect that!

so about these SHINKO's... i think i'll be getting me a set. i don't spend any time at all on any race track. ever. i mostly commute, every other weekend or so i go out and find some twisty back roads. i love pirelli tires, but it kills me to superslab it for a hour only to see that i've table-topped a perfectly good set of diablos.
i have never been disappointed with the performance of a pirelli tire, just the mileage. the last two rears i had showed cords in the middle and still had more than the minimum tread bar on each side. (with no burnouts, and 1/4 inch chicken strips)

go ahead, call me a cheap-azz. i'll give you some time to do so................................................ .............................................

so thanks everybody for your input, i do appreciate it.
i'll be sure to post up my personal review of the shinko's once i've put some miles on them.

Nillaice, I had Shinkos on a Honda CB750 chopper and wasn't too fond of them in a non-tax situation. This was at half the power the Buell with no cornering.

Have you looked in a set of Pirelli Stradas? They're great in the rain, cold, and even marginally decent in the snow. I'm getting 8k out of the rears and the fronts last for two of the rears. I recently bought/made the stuff to mount my own tires which REALLY eases the sting of putting three or four sets on a season.

I have ridden on them. I didnt like the feel initially but after warming up they do stick well. I think they're a harder tire so they last a bit longer. These particular tires are on a buddy's bike and he likes them well enough. If you go through tires often and ride the slab alot I would run them. For the money they really cant be beat. Tire snobs abound everywhere, ride what you like how you want and enjoy. Isnt that what its all about?

::cough:: diablo stradas ::cough::

I read to many poor reviews on the Shinkos to want to try them myself. I don't want to find anything out the hard way when 80% of the reviews already said they weren't worth it.

Here's what the Raven 9's, on my Uly, look like after 8k miles. Freeway to twisty miles ratio is about 3 to 1, you will notice no table topping on either tire.
