I have a buddy who says his motor is the same as mine..I've argued that the Thunderstorm of the XB is not the same Sporty motor he has, but to no avail...I need concrete proof.

Different cases (tubers used HD cases, Buell makes cases for XBs)
Different heads
Different cams
Different sensors for EFI
08-up use different oil pump (XBRR style)
Different mounting systems
Different intakes (side draft, tuber; downdraft XB)
Different transmissions (trapdoor versus non-trapdoor - XB, you have to split the case to get the gearset out)
Different flywheels

The engines are the same *architecture*, but most all of the parts are redesigned on the XBs.

And technically, the only tuber that *actually* had a Sporty motor was the S2 (and the RS/RSS bikes). Later tubers used HD cases, but with revamped internals - lighter flywheels, different pistons/heads/cams, etc.

Interesting topic- what I've been wondering is how similar are the motors between the XB12's and the new Euro- only XR1200?

Sure would like to see a CVO Sportster with various Buell performance logos throughout. I know, I'm dreaming- Flickinger himself said last March that the brands will always be separate. I think that's missing an opportunity...

but then I guess it's back to-
