The extended warranty on my M2L runs out in november, so I'm shopping for a new bike. I'd planned on waiting 'til 2010, but if I can get a good deal this fall I'll buy now. I'm expecting at least 10% off of MSRP, and no overcharging on freight, etc. Anybody know of anything that meets my needs? thanks in advance | ||

We are out West in Washington state. We have some bikes that will fit your parameters if you are up for a long ride to us and a long ride home. Well, I checked out the XB12STT that was on eBay today. They want $8250 for it including freight and set up. It seems a bit tall for me though, so I need to see if the shock preload can be easily adjusted. Also need to see if hard bags will fit the TT. Stopped at Ma's, the Triumph dealer in Fargo too. Nice folks, and they were offering a thousand off the scrambler version of the Bonneville. They had a fairly good selection of the Triumph twins in stock. The Suzuki & Kawasaki dealer in Fargo was just about sold out, had neither the weeStrom, SV650, or the DR650 left. No KLRs either, though they did have a Versus. Greater weather forecast again tomorrow- perhaps I'll ride to South Dakota... | ||

It adjusts the same way as all the other Non-Uly XB's. There is a wrench like thing in the tool kit, you pop off the seat and give the shock a twist.  As for bags, the short answer is no. Only way is if you do some fabricating. Crusty got some on his wifes bike, but he had to modify some other brackets.  | ||

Buellgrrrl, you may want to reconsider using preload to set the seat height. It wasn't meant for that. The amount of preload is subjective but there are going to be limits. An improperly setup suspension can cause premature tire wear and handling can suffer, which has been mentioned before. If Buells suspension settings aren't working for you then I would take your sag measurements to see where it's at and go from there. Just my $.02. Do you think you can get at least one foot flat on the ground? I never understood the fascination with being able to flat foot both feet. As long as I can get one foot on the ground I'm good, especially on a road bike.  | ||

Not much luck bike shopping today. To start out the day, some lowlife spray painted over all the Obama signs on the spare campaign hack. No biggy, said lowlife managed to avoid overspraying the hard to replicate paint on the bike. So I had to wait around for the police to come and make out a report just in case this nonsense escalates. Then my friend who lets me stay at her place on the glacial ridge comes home, so I BS a couple hours with her 'til she goes to sleep. I was tempted to check out a neighboring garage for rent, but they we're out of town anyway. So what the hell, it's only noon, temps in the 70s, I'm going for a ride. So other than some moderately nasty winds, I made the 130 mile ride to Watertown, South Dakota. First stop was Glacial Lakes HD/Buell?. Buell says there a dealer, but turns out they only carry Buell at there other store, J&L, in Sioux Falls. I finished my coffee and moved on. Watertown is home to a lovely mom&pop dealership, the Motocycle Shop. I heard they had some new Guzzis and I wanted to look at the 750 Breva. No little Guzzis in stock, but had a nice time BSing with the mom & pop owners. They carry Suzuki too, but are sold out of the dual sport models, SV650s, etc. Being a ham (N0EGF) I had to stop by Burgharts, Watertowns ham radio shop with a national following. The place was dead although the doors were still open. Even had a "for sale" sign out front. Wonder if they economy is hurting them or the internet is taking away all there customers? So, skunked again. Well, was an excellent ride anyway! | ||

Those are the best kind of rides. I once spent 3 hours trying to get a Big Mac at 3 AM. Had to settle for Hotcakes by time i found a McDonald's that was open! |
