Considering most of the Buell models seem to be named after weather phenomena, it strikes me as odd, that there should be a model called the 'Ulysses'. I can think of quite a few reasons, as to why it is a fitting name for a motorcycle, but they are probably not the specific reason. Can anyone enlighten me as to how it was named so? V. |

http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?Ar ticleID=2337&Page=1 Buell has long been the innovators of things that are odd yet functional so it should come as no surprise that they have come up with the multi-purpose Ulysses for 2006. The first question that needs to be answered is: Why call it the Ulysses? Well, here goes. Ulysses is the man who came up with the idea of the Trojan Horse during the siege of Troy, and the inspiration for Buell would have to have come from his decade long journey home after the war that was marked by super-human adventures which etched his name in the annals of mythology. So, the Ulysses is an adventure touring machine born of the same mold as the off-highway capable BMW R1200GS and the street-based Ducati Multistrada. The next important questions to be answered regarding this bike will be: How capable it is when the pavement ends and the off-road riding begins? |

Bring it north, I know a few places to put that bike through its paces. 66 turns in 6 miles of gravel, dirt, mud and canyon wall hugging. Devils run. Get your kicks on 66 from 6 |

Remember, especially, the Trojan connection, with regard to HD |

Ok... the adventure/travel link is obvious, but is there a weather link which would link it to other Buell model names? Hmmm... Trojan Horse within the H-D empire? |

Yes...Greek mythology. I understand where the name came from, but why? I get the whole story, including the concept of the trojan horse. There are a lot of connections with many aspects of the mythology, that leads to Ulysses being a name of strength, individualism, adventure, perserverance and pride. What I was fishing for, was what led to the conclusion that this should become it's name. You can never tell what an artist is trying to convey in an artwork, without asking the artist themselves. Otherwise, it is merely one's interpretation of it's meaning. V |

Maybe Court will elaborate. Erik and Court have been friends forever, if anyone besides Erik knows, it'd be Court. |

The first tube frames, S2, S1, S3, X1, M2 were all named after Air Planes. The Uly was named as such for, as Court pointed out, Greek Mythology. And as all of know Ulysses went on a great adventure which EB was trying to get you to do by naming said bike after said Greek hero |

Because Ulysses was one of history's great travelers. |

Speaking of inquiring minds... The other day I found myself curious as to how many miles Erik has put on his personal Uly being that it is his favorite daily ride. |
