Thanks guys.... I am in Dallas and we have seen more severe storms in the spring than Ike thought about being when it got to Dallas. Just a little rain and wind gust. My prayers are with those in Blake's neck of the woods as well. Micah |

I've talked to Tom a couple times. . . the last time, at 10AM, he and the SCU were on the deck eating chips and salsa and drinking margaritas. As a licenses safety professional I confess that I was impressed with his proactive response and the fact that he retained his keen judgement during the disaster . . . he, as an example knew to mete gas carefully, not waste it on electric light but to save it for the blender. I left him with specific instructions to keep drinking until I called back. Court P.S. - Vick washed my jeans with his number in the pocket some I am sending him a letter that it's okay to stop drinking but I can't get to the post office until a week from Thursday. |

Thanks for thinking of us Spiderman. All is now well, but it was tough going until we got the house turned back right side up...
Seriously though, all our preparations were pretty much for naught. By the time Ike made his way north to Kilgore, he had lost most of his teeth. Mostly just lots of elevated wind, surprisingly not much rain. It's sunny and gorgeous now. A few tree limbs are down in the neighborhood, just a lot of leaf/twig/stick litter in our yard, maybe a truck full all combined. Nothing like what we were expecting, luckily. We lost electricity for about five hours from noonish to five-ish. Not such a rare occurrence in East Texas with all our trees and above ground power lines. The gas kitchen range and hot water heater were much appreciated. Am once again thinking of a home generator purchase. Still very thankful that I'm not a tree squirrel. Anyone need 60 LBs of ice? |

By the time Ike made his way north to Kilgore, he had lost most of his teeth. My next door neighbor would disagree. He had a huge oak tree fall on two cars! Keith |

In spite of all the dire warnings, the only real effect Ike had here in Austin was a tremendous increase in traffic with people moving inland. Slightly windier and almost enough rain to water my lawn. My thoughts go out to all those in Galveston, Houston, et al, that bore the brunt of the storm. Jay |

Hell, down here in Corpus, we dodged the bullet... this is the second one for us this year.... Dolly, then Ike... We had one death, and a LOT of beach and dune erosion, plus the piers are beat up... But, all is well, I am moving my Yankee ass back to New England on the 7th. My time in the Navy is at an end.. Oh well, glad it seems everyone on here seems to have gotten away okay... Chase |

I've talked to Tom a couple times. . . the last time, at 10AM, he and the SCU were on the deck eating chips and salsa and drinking margaritas. That, sir, is an inaccurate statement. They were Bloody Mary's. No self-respecting Texan drinks margaritas before 10:30 am... We rode the storm out at the ranchito, no real damage, we were on the extreme western edge. Lost power for a few hours, it came back on about 30 minutes after I hauled the generator down from the shop, got it hooked up and generating. Lost power at the apartment in Houston, about 3 miles from downtown, but when I came to town this morning, the lights and water were up and running. All's well that ends well (for me, anyway), but keep those poor folks in Galveston and surrounding areas in your prayers. rt |
